Cows
Still Play Roles in Bali
Due
to technological advancements, devices used
to cultivate agricultural land also changes,
from the traditional to modern. For instance,
the ploughshare used to be generated traditionally
by taking advantage of the power of two
cows or buffaloes, but now it has been replaced
by machines or hand tractors.
Nowadays,
many farmers put their cows or buffaloes
into a stable and then make use of hand
tractors to cultivate the land. From the
howling sounds of their hand tractors, they
cultivate the land quickly.
However, not all Balinese farmers employ
hand tractors. Some of them still take advantage
of the power of cows or buffalos. The more
oil prices increase every year, so the use
of the cow and buffalo is becoming more
and more extensive. We prefer to use
cows because the sound of hand tractors
is extremely noisy, said a farmer
from Sibang Gede, Northern Badung to Bali
Travel News recently.
Tourists seemingly also like to see farmers
ploughing in their fields. Many of them
took photographs of farmers who are ploughing
with cows. This activity can be widely found
in the vicinity of Sibang and Angantaka
Villages. Both villages still have many
sizable paddy fields. (BTN/yan beryas)
