Chapter IHRAs Chairman, Cok Ace
An All-Round Artist
The Chairman of the Indonesia Hotel and
Restaurant Association (PHRI) Bali Chapter,
Ir. Tjok Oka Artha Ardhana S, MSi., who
is more popularly known as Cok Ace, in fact
is an all-round artist. He is not only capable
of painting, dancing, playing gamelan and
sculpting but also being an architect, especially
that of Balinese building style.
As
a monarch, Cok Ace has three hotels in Ubud
so his colleagues we are not mistaken to
appoint the descent of Ubud royal palace
the Chairman of PHRI of Bali Chapter for
the term 2005-2009. He replaced the position
of I Gede Wirata who is now occupying the
Chairman of Bali Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (Kadin Bali).
At an interview with a contributor of Bali
Travel News in Sanur, Cok Ace explained
that he has put great interest on various
arts since his childhood. He liked to draw,
dance, play gamelan and sculpt on wood.
All of these appeared due to influence of
his surroundings. Who does not know about
Ubud that has been known as the kampong
of artists from time immemorial?
Except for the influence of Ubud village,
arts in his blood also flow from the environs
of Ubud royal palace that has paid attention
and developed the Balinese arts and culture.
Painter, sculptor and dancer grow amazingly
in the vicinity of Ubud royal palace. Even,
the palace has Tedung Agung dance studio
that is chaired by Cok Ace.
Many students from elementary, secondary
and senior high school in Ubud join the
dance course at his studio. They practice
on Wednesdays and Sundays and in the evening
they frequently cheer up visitors at the
stage of the palace.
Personally, Cok Ace is good at presenting
mask and rangda dance on Calonarang dance
drama. Similarly, he can sculpt various
kinds of wooden mask like that for mask,
barong and rangda dance.
As Chairman of PHRI Bali Chapter, Cok Ace
is proud of Tri Hita Karana (THK) awards
presentation to hotels in Bali. Im
glad because through this THK Awards the
hotel will improve service in a better way
to their customers. The more pleasant thing
is that the hotels are willing to become
foster parent and refurbish the supporting
facilities of the tourist object in Bali,
he said while adding that elegant and convenient
tourist object will become a distinctive
point of interest for travelers to come
and see. (BTN/yan beryas)
