Obsessed to “Embezzle the Attention”
Through the Parade
Bangli is the only regency in Bali that
has no beach and sea—however it has
Lake Batur— conveys its obsession to
‘embezzle the attention’ through
the opening parade of the Bali Arts Festival
2005. “For that purpose, we have assorted
distinctive arts that will be presented
on the forthcoming opening parade,”
said the Chairman of the Organizing Committee
for Bangli Regency, Drs. Wayan Warta Megantara,
MM to Bali Travel News (BTN) recently.
 One
of the art asset distinctiveness of Bangli
that will be presented on the arena of the
27th Bali Arts Festival this year is traditional
costume of Trunyan. On that occasion, some
young couples of Trunyan Village will put
on their traditional wedding costume. “This
sort of costume is very simple but it manages
to give magical nuance that reflects the
dressmaking of ancient Balinese wedding,”
said Megantara.
Other than ancient costumes, contingent
of Bangli will also prepare procession of
umbul-umbul (one of ritual paraphernalia
in the form of long vertical banner) on
the parade of BAF opening. The procession
brings along various kinds of Hindu ritual
paraphernalia that frequently is held at
villages across Bangli Regency. Except for
umbul-umbul, there are also tedungs (umbrella)
that has the meaning to protect the community
against several disasters.
This procession will be accompanied by gamelan
and gong suling (gamelan and bamboo flute)
instrument so it would manage to invite
a cool mood and pacify the mind. Flute instruments
made of small bamboo will create serene
ambience in melodious tone. All are played
by distinguished artists of Bangli.
At the end of the BAF parade, will be presented
ogoh-ogoh (papier-mâché demon)
and baleganjur gamelan orchestra. Both presentations
are expected to manage to jazz up the parade
that takes place at Renon Denpasar, in front
of Bajra Sandhi Monument. Meanwhile, in
the evening, the Bangli Regency will stage
various art presentations like wayang wong
(man-playered puppet), baris ket, puppet
shadow and new creation dances. Likewise
in the field of exhibition, it will be exhibited
several typical products of Bangli that
are mostly in the form of souvenirs. (BTN/suka)
