“Bale Kulkul” at Bali House of Representatives Complex

Pursuant to its name, this bale or pavilion is specially intended to set out kulkul (wooden split drum). The bale kulkul at Bali House of Representatives complex is situated to the east of the front side of the main building. In this building, a plenary meeting of The House’s members is normally held to make decisions. The bale kulkul is specially designed in Balinese architectural style. Probably, only in the office of the Bali House of Representatives is this bale kulkul. It is adopted from the ‘sakepan’ tradition at hamlets across Bali.
So, what is it’s function? Kulkul at the complex of the Bali House of Representatives building is to indicate the inauguration of a plenary meeting. It is usually done to coincide with the kulkul itself and is beaten by one of the general affairs’ staff at the secretariat of Bali House of Representatives. It is pounded 17 times a signal for members of The House to officially commence to discuss the important issues in Bali.
