Bali Campaigns Against Drugs

When you enter downtown Denpasar and its vicinity you’ll find it’s festooned with banners saying ‘Anti-Narkoba’ (anti-drugs). Time and again, the banner is written in Bahasa Indonesia because its target is the local community to make them aware of the hazard of drugs. However, there is also a banner in English seen in front of the office of Bali House of Representatives that reads “Value Yourself Make Healthy Choices.”
The flaring up of ‘Anti-Drugs’ shows a phenomenon that Bali, as world leading tourist destination is sensitive to drugs smuggling or distribution. Furthermore supports the International United Nations Day for Drugs Elimination and Trade that falls on 26 July 2005.
There are some tempting expressions among the hundreds of the available banners. For instance, the one that is set up in front of the Office of Bali Governor reads “Be a Beneficial Community Without Drugs”. Then, another banner says, “This Life is so Exquisite, Don’t Be Wiped Out With Drugs” is placed in front of the Office of Legal and Human Rights Department. Similarly, in the presence of the office of Bali Educational Services, there is a banner reading “Bali is Safe, Peaceful Without Drugs”.
In front of the Office of Welfare Services, the banner set up says, “Healthy Family Without Drugs”. A banner “Let Establish Healthy Mind, Keep Away From Drugs” is set in front of the Office of Bali Civil Service Agency. “Don’t Spoil Your Graceful Day With Drugs” is banner in front of the Bali Government Tourist Office. Meanwhile, in front of the Office of Civil Service Police and Regional Supervisory Board: “Drugs is the Community’s Foremost Foe,” “Reach a Better Future Without Drugs” in front of the Office of Regional Coordinative Agency for Investments and “Bali Will Be Peaceful Without Drugs” is set in front of the Office of Bali Industry and Trade Services.
In addition, following the 59th Anniversary of the Indonesian Police (1 July), it places some anti-drugs banners like “Keep Guard on Your Family Against Drug Hazards”, “Drugs Bearers Punishable by Death Penalty” and “Let’s Make Bali Safe, Peaceful and Convenient”. (BTN/Para)
