Head of the Indonesian Police:
No Exchange of Drug Criminals
Expatriates that become suspects in drugs
cases in Bali persistently increases. Responding
to the matter, the Head of the Indonesian
Police, General Police Sutanto, on Tuesday
(23/8) stated firmly that drugs suspects
are not goods that could be
exchanged. It includes the suspect Corby
and Michelle Leslie alias Michelle Lee,
a young model from Australia who was found
bringing two pieces of narcotic pills. It
is a legal affair, not like goods
that are exchangeable, he stated following
the face-to-face meeting with all officers
of Bali Provincial Police.
The Head of the Indonesian Police that also
holds the position of Head of National Narcotic
Agency admitted that he was proud of the
success of drugs officers of Bali Provincial
Police that revealed the case and captured
such drugs suspect.
In relation to the fact that many Australians
have got involved in drug cases, Sutanto
added, there was no intervention from external
parties. All parties respect one anothers
the law prevailing in their respective country.
Except for that, there is no special case,
all will be processed in accordance with
legislation in Indonesia, he said.
The large number of Australians that were
caught in Indonesia, especially in Bali,
is because the country still constitutes
the principal supplier of foreign
tourists that travel to this country. (BTN/DP)
