East Bali Poverty Project
The
Bali Dynasty has committed to giving a little
back to those less fortunate ever since
the inception of the Bali Dynasty Charity
Effort. It was established in April 2000
to support the educational needs and provide
future sustainability to children and their
families in a remote area of North Eastern
Bali in conjunction with the East Bali Poverty
Project.
Up until 2003, the Bali Dynasty Resort supported
the two village schools of Cegi and Pengalusan
and following additional support from a
community in Holland the Bali Dynasty Resort
are focusing now on improving the lives
of over 65 children in the remote village
of Pengalusan. Recently, as part of a management
teambuilding, and much to the amusement
of the kids and villagers, 10 of the resorts
senior managers including three expatriates
spent two days decorating the inside and
outside of the school to provide a more
convivial working environment for the over
60 children. Robert Kelsall, General Manager
and initiator of the charity concept in
2000 commented, Its a great
opportunity to not only build better teamwork
amongst our management team, but the same
time it enables us to realize that there
are a lot of people much worse off than
ourselves and enables us to give them encouragement
and a greater hope for the future. Everyone
came away with a great sense of achievement!.
Fund raising for the project is done mainly
through the resorts visitors who are
encouraged to participate in various event
such as the Annual back to Bali Dynasty
Party in Perth as well as in house activities
such as Quiz nights in Gracie Kellys
Irish pub every Tuesday and Thursday evening
and denote in the charity donation boxes.
For fun, department heads are fined for
note completing work or duties on time and
not being able to answer questions in the
weekly product knowledge quiz. Staffs are
encouraged to participate through purchasing
items from the bazaars that are held where
all proceeds go to project.
The objective of the project is to educate
the children how to become self-sustainable
through a unique curriculum, which includes
organic farming. The Dynasty is proud to
have been able to purchase some produce
back, proving how sustainable the project
really is.
To date the Bali Dynasty Resort stands as
the East Bali Poverty Projects number
two largest supporter behind Thames Water
who developed the infrastructure for providing
water from a mountain spring to the many
hamlets in the area who had previously had
no such resource. (BTN/*)
