There are several artists who will exhibit their works such as Ketut Muja (father) and his sons, I Wayan Jana, I Made Supena, I Ketut Sugantika and his daughter-in-law, Ni Nyoman Sani the wife of I Ketut Sugantika. Dr. Achim Sibeth, is a curator who comes from Southeast Asia from the Museum der Weltkulturen, Frankfurt, German.
In Bali Ketut Muja is known as a creative sculptor, according to him you have to give special attention to the wood that is used as a row material before the process to make the statue is done.
Before making a statue for the first time Ketut Muja will place the wood in the proper place to be seen every time. Every day he examines the wood, but his mind remains to create an interesting shape.
When his feeling is integrated with the wood, he then starts work, certainly this method needs a lot of time. So it is Ketut Muja wish, that he wants be alive in 200 years, in order to produce a lot of sculpts.
I Wayan Jana was born in 8 July 1968; he is the older son of Ketut Muja. He is an alumnus of ISI, Jogyakarta. It seems, the artistic talent of his father was passed on to him. Realizing this Ketut Muja gave a lot of attention to his son, in his young age so Wayan has talent on sculpture techniques.
At the beginning Wayan just made sculpts in traditional style, but when he graduated from the college, he become a skillful person to produce sculpts in modern style.
The second son of Ketut Muja, is I Made Supena, born on the 12 January 1970. He graduated from the Art Department at Udayana University, Denpasar. From a child he was very interested in fine art together with his brother and father. When he graduated from the college, he finally decided to take up painting. Made preferred to paint in the traditional style, than in the expressionism abstract style.

The 10th Anniversary of Museum Rudana

The establishment of the Museum in Indonesia has to be seen as part of an idealism an effort to struggle, since much of its effort involves no-profit making ventures (This situation is quite different from that of Europe and America in which the Museum can be seen, financially, as a profit producing institution).
It is surprising, therefore when Mr. Rudana (gallery owner) suddenly emerges with strong inspirations to establish a museum. People may be puzzled when Mr. Rudana puts certain portions of his financial gain aside from the sale of paintings in his gallery to purchase special works of fine art for his museum.
Rudana, as a curator of Indonesian fine art, is special. History has recoded that in the year 1950 was the beginning of the formal education of fine art in Indonesia. The previous tradition was established by art groups in the 1920’s is, then, abandoned. The early period has produced The Association of Indonesian Painters of PERSAGI in 1938, Sanggar Jiwa Mukti (Jiwa Mukti Studio), Sangar Seniman Muda (Studio of Young Indonesia Artist) in 1950. All this has marked a new era in Indonesia fine art; academic phase fine art which can be considered as contemporary in this country. (BTN/*)

Bali’s Beaches on Canvas

Bali has a lot of interesting beaches as tourist attractions, with various characteristics respectively. For example it’s white sandy beaches with good waves for surfing and diving, while enjoying the beautiful under water sea panoramas. Moreover Bali’s beaches also function as painting objects, by the painters likes Arie Smit and Affandi.

Ari has made a lot of paintings using beaches as the object and they are: Sanur Beach, Kuta, Lovina and also other beaches which are very interesting to visit. Its impressionism style (but Arie prefers to call himself a poetical realist) that appears in his paintings with Bali’s beaches characters complete with its hot weather and blue water. Some of Arie’s paintings are saved at Neka Museum, in Sanggingan, Ubud.
In his paintings you can see clearly, that Arie very much comprehends the character of beaches. The hot weather, sea waves, and also lumps of clouds in the sky are appearing on the canvas.
Different with Affandi (the late), from all of his beach paintings, Kusamba Beach (Klungkung) is the most sought after. The painting has expressionism style making it very exclusive.
Affandi usually paints nature. It makes him ready to work in hot places for several hours. But according to him it couldn’t stop his aim to work around the beach. A painting of 2 meters can be finished in several hours. “But, before he starts to paint, sometimes he will spend several days to observe its object “said an art observer.
When he find out the inspiration, he will enjoy the nature, and catch many kinds shapes of ships and fishermen’s houses that are spread along the coast, and also catch the sun shine and waves. All of these will be saved in his mind and will be drawn on the (canvas). (BTN/Gung Man)
