Discovery Shopping Mall
One-Stop-Shopping Complex

Numerous shopping centres and malls or plazas along with a variety of concepts and marketing strategies are progressively mushrooming. Community’s perspective towards malls and plazas gets down to change. Previously, mall-plazas frequently considered being a paradise of shopping, but now they have become pattern and lifestyle of urbanists. Some of them currently spend time at mall-plazas, starting from window-shopping, shopping, having meals and even holding a meeting. One-stop-shopping is a concept offered by most malls or plazas that make it easier for consumers to bring about varied activities together with family, relative, friend and colleagues.

Apart from superiority of view, there are some other excellences like a radio station aired from DSM. “We also have 16 escalators, spacious cars and motorbikes, parking lot, merchandise lift, air conditioners (AC) in all rooms, toilets of starred-hotel standard and back up electricity by means of high powered generator sets.
DSM is the right, complete and strategic choice of shopping and entertainment centre. Called right because it possesses the concept of one-stop-shopping and strategic as it’s nestled right in the heart of Kuta—only 5 minutes drive from and to Ngurah Rai International Airport, 15 minutes from destination centres like Sanur, Nusa Dua, Seminyak and Jimbaran and 30 minutes from Denpasar city. If you stay in Kuta and its surround including Legian, this Super Mall can be reached on foot.
According to Willem Andry, DSM is a three-floored building and one basement with class tenants like Centro Department Store that presents newly lifestyle in the Island of Bali, The Club Store Supermarket with piquant flavour, Electronic City the largest and most complete electronic centre in Bali, various classed boutiques and fashion outlets like Guess, Esprit, Nautica, Batik Keris, Sagas and Giordano. In addition, there are also choices and accessories that complete the branded wristwatch products such as Alexandra Cristy, Alba and Rolex. Other products that are also available are shoes, bags, well-known eyewear like Christian Dior, Rodenstock, Gucci and diverse international branded perfumes.
Similarly, DSM is completed with various kinds of high-flavoured restaurants and café such as Starbucks, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, Bali Colado and Café O La La.
For those who bring along the children need not to worry as there is an Amazone amusement arcade that makes your life and family more significant. There is also a specialty retailer that will become a complement of dynamic life needs of the Balinese community.
All quality demands and lifestyles will be met perfectly when making a visit to Discovery Shopping Mall. Its price is indeed fairly expensive because all products sold belong to international brand and quality. On that account, its target market is middle class upward.
Willem Andry refuses the assumption that DSM was founded merely intended for middle class upwards. “There are certain items that are affordable for all classes,” Willem says while adding if such items are on promotion sale, they sell well and favoured by many consumers.

The Largest and Pioneer
Currently, DSM has 120 house-shops with different sizes and extent. Amongst the 120 house-shops, Centro Department Store & Electronic City is the largest tenant, while Club Store Supermarket is the pioneer at DSM. “Both are the tenant anchors of DSM,” utters Willem while adding that Gramedia and Food Court are also major tenants that are moderately taken into consideration.
To Bali Travel News, Andila Ramadiyanto, Service Centre Supervisor of Centro Department says Centro is the lifestyle Department Store that presents quality products and of international brands. According to Ramadiyanto, especially Centro Department Store has seven groups of products, namely Ladies’ Department, Men’s Department, Children’s Department, Home & Gift, Shoes & Bags and Cosmetics. The best-seller and most visited by tourists are Ladies’, Men’s Department and Home & Gift since they present branded products like Personal Style, Puravida, M2000, Rip Curl and Levi’s, while Home & Gift comprising Aussino Elegance, Cathys, Glasshop and so forth. “Swim, casual and sports wear are also most favoured by tourists due to their simple motif and relaxed to wear,” Rama says.
Arya Adhidarmawan, S.E., Branch Manager of Electronic City says that market segment of his company is indeed high class since Electronic City constitutes an Electronic Hyper Market and is the only one in Bali. “We are the only one that have shop with trade fair concept,” says Arya while adding that nearly all world’s leading electronic brands are displayed at his shop like Plasma, LCD, Sony, Pioneer, LG, Toshiba, Panasonic and so on. “Their price is competitive so many consumers prefer our products,” says Arya.
Doing shopping at Electronic City indeed has many added values. Payment by credit card is without charge and the most interesting is free insurance guarantee (fire, flood and lightning) and 14 days merchandising back guarantee.
According to Arya, most customers are tourists that buy electronic products like handycams, digital cameras, Walkmans and pocket cameras. In their opinion, products of the same brand is cheaper in Indonesia than in their home country. Almost 80% of customers that do shopping at Electronic City are tourists and expatriates that domicile in Bali.
DSM is the largest and most complete One-Stop-Shopping concept in Bali. And, it’s the only Mall or Plaza that has oceanfront views. (BTN/013)
