Ayunan
Jantra Stays to be Favoured
The
traditional amusement of ayunan jantra
or the swinging spin-wheel is currently
still favoured. This amusement device that
is made of timber and spun by hand power
remains to be widely found, especially on
Galungan and Kuningan holidays. Its customers
are mostly children and infrequently new
adolescents.
Children
that experience this amusement look happy
with their particular scream, just like
enjoying a roller coaster. Overwhelmed
by fear infrequently is heard cries in the
midst of the crowd. This kind of amusement
is really teasing visitors to experience
it.
The swinging device that was made in 1980
stays to be retained at Alas Kedaton monkey
forest that belongs to the territory of
Kukuh Village, Marga, Tabanan, some 18 km
northwest of Denpasar. Others can be found
at places like Pengembungan Hamlet and Tegaljadi
Village, 4 km north of Alas Kedaton. While,
the older one can be found at Tenganan Village
(Karangasem) that constitutes the oldest
village in Bali.
According to Mr. Kaka from Kukuh Village,
the swinging device contains eight chairs
and is generated by the power of eight people.
Four are in charge in the upper part at
the centre to spin the wheel and other four
are in charge on the ground. They are assigned
to pick up and drop off passengers, sell
tickets at the counter and control the queue
of passengers. With a ticket costing
at IDR 1000, passengers are given the turn
of spinning five minutes, he says.
In the meantime, the Badung Regency of which
territory includes Kuta along with its modern
amusement park also has a similar device.
This can be found at Taman Ayun, Mengwi,
16 km north of Denpasar. (BTN/015)
