Bangli, Peace and Harmony

Mujair Delicacy a La Seked

Seked is a cool sphere on the Batur lakeside, Kintamani, Bangli. It is tranquilly situated between Kedisan and Toya Bungkah Village lying on volcanic stone due to eruption of Mount Batur. Along the roadside occurs a line of inns, hotels, restaurants, food stalls and traditional warungs. One of them is Warung Seked because it indeed sits at Seked area..

It sells distinguishing menu of mujair constituting the catches obtained from Lake Batur. This bijou warung or food stall is extraordinarily best selling. Consequently, customers are even willing to wait in a queue for this mujair delicacy.
Inspired by Warung Seked mentioned above, Mrs. Bagong, a city dweller of Bangli makes an effort to open mujair food stall with typical aroma and spices of Seked. This food stall’s employment has been set in motion in the vicinity of LC of Subak Aya, Bangli City since 2004. “We take advantage of mujair catches produced through cultivation at Lake Batur,” she said to Bali Travel News.
Observed that food product of mujair a la Seked is much favoured by consumers from outside Lake Batur area. To a greater extent, several foreign tourists as well come in person to order catering produced by Mrs. Bagong.
Distinctiveness of menu provided by Mrs. Bagong is discernible from the spices utilized and fresh fish that specially imported from Lake Batur. “Frankly speaking, we never make use of any flavourings (chemical substance),” she said while adding that cooking oil employed is that traditionally processed oil. Just as the other spices like turmeric, kencur, ginger, garlic, shallot, large chilli, small chilli, coriander, salam leaf and so forth are right from farmers.
Still, its method of cooking can be categorized into typical and much different from the usual one. All spices are grounded, except for shallot and garlic are sliced, so is its serving. If the fish is not severed, the spice employed is sambal added with fresh local salad. While, for the severed fish is immediately mixed with spices that have been prepared. “Every day, we need 25 kg mujair that are purchased at IDR 14,000/kg. In the meantime, one portion of complete menu is sold at IDR 12,000,” she added.
