Inhuman Attacks

The Balinese communities are still trying to come to terms with the October, 1 bombings in Jimbaran and Kuta. A total of 3 bombs were set off early on Saturday evening. The first at a popularNyoman Cafe on Jimbaran beach followed by a second explosion in the same loocation (Manega Cafe). The third bombs was set off at Raja's bar and restaurant close to Matahari's Department Store in Kuta Square. A total of 26 people died, mainly locals and Japanese tourists. 200 were admitted to hospitals at both Sanglah and Kuta

Balinese communities are up in arms over the attack, which claimed many Balinese lives. This is the second bombing to affect the island of Bali; the first was on the 12th October 2002 claiming over 200 lives with hundreds injured.

Security Budget
The security problem in Bali especially in Badung Regency (Kuta and Jimbaran) needs serious attention. AA Gde Agung, Regent of Badung Regency, accompanied by the head of DPRD, Gde Adnyana, said “the Badung government will give more financial attention to improve security” we will give the exclusive support in order to maintain the security in Badung, by increasing the operational cost “ Adnyana added.
Badung Regent emphasized security efforts is the main priority and will be done continually. Badung will resurrect Bankamdes (region security) in the village.
On the other hand, the Badung government’s Wayan Sudikerta (Vice Regent) will collect data evaluate losses and the number of victims. “We will give aid assistance for victims but the amount hasn’t been calculate yet” said Sudikerta
A housewife from Sudaji Buleleng, Kadek Suastari, believe it or not, has identified the names, addresses and the car they used complete with registration number, color and type.
When in a trance, Suastari said that she is “Patih Gajah Mada” (the minister of Hindu Kingdom Majapahit in 14th century). Is her information true? Police are working hard now to reveal this tragedy.

First Anniversary
A spokesman for Nyoman’s Café said the material loss was not big, however it’s now the job of how to get back the good image of the cafe.
Nyoman Café were to celebrate their first birth day. The café that was built in 2004, and a branch of Nyoman Café in Jimbaran, was attacked by the bomb at Muaya Beach, Jimbaran. It was planned for employees to celebrate Nyoman Café’s birthday with a simple party.
Nyoman Cafe and Manega Café are favorite places among 19 other cafés located there. Every night not less than 200 visitors crowd both cafes foreigners and domestic to sample grilled fish, lobster, and the other sea food menus.
Made Geno, the owner of Manega Café is also very depressed. When we meet him at his house in Jalan Pantai Sari, Jimbaran he didn’t stay at home but rather visited his employees at the hospital according to one of his neighbors.
The effect of this situation is not only felt by owners, and staff of Nyoman Cafe and Manega Café, but also other café’s that are located at Muaya Beach, Jimbaran Kedonganan all feel the same. Perhaps foreigners and local people will avoid visiting open places especially at night, said Made Geno. Sudarsa the owner Teba Café said the physical destruction can be recovered, but the effect of it is very hard as he has invested around Rp 1,2 billion in the café. Caution Not Anarchy
The Denpasar Government held a meeting following Bali bomb 1/10 at Kuta and Jimbaran. The Mayor of Denpasar Puspayoga said to all Denpasar citizens to remain calm. “Keep religious harmony and just leave the process to the police” he said.
He also instructed the Vice Mayor, Ida Bagus Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra to call an urgent meeting with all chairpeople for religious harmony.
Rai said that the government is understanding about the feeling among the Balinese society that are angry and disappointed with the result the second bomb blast. The Government hopes that people will accept the situation. “Don’t become emotional and provoke issues that could damage peace and safety” said Rai.

Three bombers dead, three still at large, at time of pablication (10/10 2005)
It was suspected that six acts of involvement were in Kuta and Jimbaran. Three were killed and suspected of being the executors of the blasts..
The Head of Bali Police Mangku Pastika accompanied Indonesian President at a press conference held Sunday, (2/10). Mangku Pastika explained that the explosive material used was TNT with a high explosive content of 10 kilogram’s and was produced outside Bali. Three suspected bombers are still at large.
Indonesian President Yudoyono delivered his sadness to the Balinese people and cursed the terror. The Bomb blast at Kuta and Jimbaran not only brought sadness to the Balinese people, but it was also a national tragedy. “The government has taken the decision to impose that heaviest of sentences on the culprits involved.” said the President. The government is to prioritize medical treatment to the victims in hospitals and carry out intensive investigations in the hope of catching those involved and give more attention to public tourism security in all areas of Bali.
