Clinic of I Nengah Misi
Acupuncture and Balinese Healing

I Nengah Misi is a traditional healer from Klungkung Regency. Its healing technique is called ‘Akupuntur Muksipasi’. This is believed to have a capacity of curing all kinds of illnesses by means of needles insertion, either straightforwardly or by inducement. For instance, when headache occurs the lower part of the body (foot) is inserted with needles, while for dizzyness, their insertions are done on the hand. In giving treatment to his patients, the latter habitually come to his practice office. Then, he diagnoses the illness suffered and to what extent the medical treatment has been done by physician (if ever). “Frankly speaking, physician’s diagnosis is obviously helps me. Moreover, the patient brings along with his roentgen photograph, its result will be more accurate,” he said to Bali Travel News.

I Nengah Misi lives at Pangi Hamlet, Pikat Village, Dawan sub district, Klungkung. But his practice office located at cooperative Bhuana Arta, Belatung Hamlet, Pesinggahan Village (some 300 meters) east of Goa Lawah tourist object. His working hour is from 07:00 to 10:00 in the morning ant 14:00 to 17:00 in the afternoon. Average patient that comes to his practice office reaches more than five per day.
According to Misi, not all parts of the body can be inserted with needles. Artery and blood vessel should be avoided from insertion at all. In addition, patient who is scared and having satisfied stomach may not be acupunctured. If the patients would like to get recovered soon, he suggests them to buy Chinese medicine. For instance, patient of bone fracture will get recovered soon by means of such medicine.
According to Misi, since he was in the fifth year of elementary school has been interested to cure others. Then, he aspirated to continue to Faculty of Medicine. However, his fate destined differently, he did not pass on the entrance exam. This did not lessen the interest of the man who was born on 21 February 1931 to have the capability of curing others. Misi then deeply involved in acupuncture abroad (China).
He was on duty abroad on taking leave in military services and assigned by the government of Indonesia to study there. He could learn acupuncture immediately as it happened that his grandfather-in-law mastered the healing system of ‘Shilat Yu Yit Tshu’ that constituted a part of acupuncture. Having learned for nine years, he mastered two sciences of acupuncture. More than that, he also had a time to learn about Chinese pharmacy.
Misi then has got down to deeply involved in this healing since 1963 and put it into practice at his village with the combination of Balinese Usadha (healing) in 1971. Usadha is a traditional healing system of Bali by applying usadhic palm-leaf manuscript.
Needles used to acupuncture the patient’s body have been sterilized by means of alcohol 70%. Insertion depth on the patient’s body averages 2 cm, while insertion of 20 cm is intended for those of too obese patient. “All (needles) are inserted on buttocks area,” he said.
