Traditional Art at Hotels in Nusa Dua Area

Art activity at hotels in Nusa Dua tourist resort has now become delightful commodity for tourists. Of tens of hotels in the midst of Nusa Dua jungle, nearly all hotels have traditional art activities. Unfortunately, art activities that previously became daily enthralling entertainment, its volume dropped drastically due to tourist visit plunged these days on account of Kuta and Jimbaran bomb.


Hotels that remain to bring about the art activities, in general, are those that located at the beach. One of them is Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa that stays consistent with such traditional activities. According to Wayan Nuryati, the Marketing Communication Coordinator, this art activity got warm appreciation from hotel guests. Many tourists involved in person in the activity. However, she said that learning to play gamelan was the most favoured by them. “The tourists are fond of playing rindik gamelan instrument. Once in a while, they are willing to wait in a queue to get the feeling of such bamboo-made gamelan,” uttered Nuryati proudly.
She said, to get involved in that art activity, the guests do not need to bring any equipment as the hotel has prepared it. “Should you need to join this art activity, simply come! Any equipments have been well prepared, even you do not need to pay or in other words, free of charge,” she added.
Learning to dance is performed on Mondays at 10:00; playing rindik on Fridays at 15:00 and arranging palm-leaf on Mondays at 15:00 that lasts for an hour. “Other than learning about traditional art, we also make a presentation of Balinese dances,” she added.
Meanwhile, aside from learning to dance, the Hotel Nikko Bali Resort & Spa also offers the learning to wear Balinese traditional costume and speaking Balinese. Its participants consist of children aging 4-12 years and carried out on Tuesday at 16:00 to 17:30 Local Time and Friday at 10:20 to 12:00. The hotel that situated on Jalan Nusa Dua Selatan also provides playground that is open daily, starting from 09:00 to 18:00 Local Time.
According to Fretty, the Public Relation Manager of the hotel who was contacted via phone, the tourists, particularly children, best favoured the activity of learning to wear Balinese costume. At the Kupu-Kupu, traditional performance that involved Balinese community is presented at dinnertime. For instance, Cak Dance is staged on Mondays, non-dramatic dance on Wednesdays, Tektekan and Barong on Fridays. The show usually takes place at 19:00 to 21:30 Local Time. In this happening, tourists are given the opportunity to join the dance so it reveals an intimate ambience. “On having dinner, the men will be given a sarong and headdress, while the women a piece of sarong and sash. By this way, we expect that they can experience the atmosphere of Bali,” she explained.
“Nikko also had Semara Swarjaya gamelan troupe consisting of 60 members, both men and women. When carrying out exercise, guests are sometimes given an opportunity to see or even involve in it,” she asserted while adding the schedule of the exercise, namely on Tuesdays and Thursdays for men and on Wednesdays and Sundays for women that took place at 16:00 to 18:00 LT.
Other neighbouring hotel, namely Inna Putri Bali Hotel, Cottages & Spa is not left behind. Balinese Arts & Handicrafts demonstration is held at Beach Front Inna Putri Bali every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 10:00 Local Time. This activity is exceptionally held for hotel guests apart from being intended to introduce the activity of mejejahitan activity or arranging palm-leaf with assorted flower for oblations. On this occasion, guests can learn together so they come to know how to make canang, lamak and other kinds of oblations.
Dwi Maryani from the Public Relations Department said that except for learning to make oblations on Wednesdays at 10:00 LT, the hotel also brought about the activity of learning to paint at swimming pool area. This activity was also intended for in-house guests in order they know more about the painting of Balinese style and learn together without being charged.
Ultimately, Melia Bali Villas & Spa Resort has noteworthy uniqueness. It has re-launched spiritual tourism since May 2005. According to information gathered, yoga program at this hotel obtained outstandingly positive response from foreign guests. It is indicated by many guests who are interested to join it. This yoga program is scheduled on Monday to Friday at 07:30 to 08:30 Local Time. Within one session, at least, three to five participants attend it. In the meantime, participation fee charged for this yoga program is only USD 10.
