Overly Hazardous if Tourism is Only to Pursue
Cash
If
tourism business only pursued cash or merely
hungered for growth, productivity and efficiency,
it would become overly hazardous and conveyed
high risk. Because, it could bring forth
mentality tending to exploit the nature.
Mentality of this kind also delivered explorative,
exploitative and destructive attitude, not
only to the natural resources but also to
the life itself.
Prof. Dr. Emil Salim, from World Committee
on Tourism Ethics stated so on the culminating
agenda of the Tri Hita Karana Tourism Awards
(THK Awards) 2005 presentation at Taman
Ayun Temple, Mengwi, Badung on last Thursday
night (15/12).
Also in attendance on that occasion were
the Minister of Environment Ir. Rachmat
Witoelar, United Nation-Asia Pacific Ambassador
for Millenium Development Goals Ir. Erna
Witoelar, former Minister for Culture and
Tourism Drs. Gede Ardika, Bali-wide Regents/Mayor
and Chairman of Regional House of Representatives,
Regional Secretary of Bali, Prime and Middle-level
Assembly for Customary Village across Bali,
general manager of hotels and other invitees.
Annual Program
THK Tourism Awards, according to Berata
Ashrama, Chairman of the Organizer, constituted
annual program that was first launched in
Bali in 2000. For this year 2005 was participated
by 101 entrants, consisting of 87 star hotels
and non-star hotel, 14 tourist object and
attractions (TOA). Out of these numbers,
53 participants were voted to be nominator
in accordance with determined category.
And among the 53 nominators, 18 of them
were elected to be achievers of THK Awards
in the categories such as bronze, silver
and gold.
The 18 participants of THK Awards 2005 achievers
were divided into 6 categories. TOA category
successively went to Taman Ayun (gold),
Waterbom Bali (silver) and Sangeh (bronze);
Jasmine or non-star hotel category to Cempaka
Belimbing Villas (gold), Waka Di Ume Resort
(silver) and Puri Bagus Candidasa (bronze);
for category of 1, 2, and 3-star hotel to
Puri Santrian Hotel (gold), Nusa Lembongan
Resort (silver) and Tanjung Sari Hotel (bronze);
4-star hotel category to Alila Ubud (gold),
Alila Manggis (silver) and Bali Dynasty
Resort (bronze). In the meantime, for the
category of 5 and 5-plus star hotel was
achieved by Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa
(gold), Sofitel Seminyak Bali (silver) and
Melia Benoa (bronze) and boutique resort
category went to The Ritz-Carlton Bali Resort
& Spa (gold), Ibah Luxury Villas (silver)
and Bali Tropic Resort & Spa (bronze).
On the culminating agenda of the THK Awards
presentation also announced the achiever
of Emerald Award, the supreme trophy in
this program in which only presented to
participant that was capable of maintaining
to reach gold trophy for three times in
succession. Emeral Award 2005 went to Cempaka
Belimbing Villas, a non-star hotel located
