BTDC, the Best State-Owned Company 2005

In the sluggish condition of Bali tourism, the Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC) achieved award as the best state-owned company 2005. BTDC as a state-owned company that manages the Nusa Dua tourist resort was declared the best in the category of state-owned company for service and trading business. The award was presented by the Investor magazine in an official ceremony on last Wednesday (14/12) in Jakarta.
Ir. Made Mandra, MSc., Managing Director of BTDC, told the press that the award was extended based on an independent assessment done by Investor magazine to some state-owned companies in accordance with their category.
Also added, as a world premier tourist destination it has made earnest effort to improve security and convenience for tourists who made a visit. As one of state-owned companies that manage tourism business, BTDC has implemented reliable security systems for so long to deliver service and security to tourists.
Several awards have been obtained by BTDC such as PATA Green Leaf from PATA (1998) on its commitment to environmental preservation. Then, Kalpataru Award (1999), Best State-Owned Company 2002 (asset under IDR 1 quintillion from Investor magazine), company of zero accident successively since 1999 to 2003, Green Globe 21 certification issued by independent institution that certified by United Nations-World Tourism Organization (UN-WTO) and as the world first tourist resort that achieved Green Globe 21 certification for community category.

Social Role
To improve harmonious relation to the surrounding community, Mandra added, BTDC endeavoured to enhance community’s prosperity, widening job opportunity, intensifying quality tourist object, attraction, and boost active participation of community at the surrounding of the resort. “We have delivered financial assistance to 509 partners throughout regencies/municipality of Bali. They were provided with training and soft loans for working capital with the rate of interest amounting to 6% per annum,” he said.
BTDC also holds annual Festival Nusa Dua. This festival is expected to be media of promotion of Balinese and archipelagic cultural preservation. “In sport domain, we regularly hold the Nusa Dua Ten nis Open, a world professional tennis tournament,” he added.

Environment
To conserve the environment, BTDC has issued a policy that all wastewater produced by hotels and other tourist facilities in Nusa Dua are intercepted and retained at a location, and then it’s processed into irrigation water for sprinkling the plants at the resort. “In fact, the lagoon of processing wastewater becomes an overly enthralling ecological cycle. There grows algae that are like best by fish, so its population grows rapidly. This attracts thousands of birds and 87 species of them breed prolifically there,” Mandra explained.
Meanwhile, other solid wastes are processed into bio compost, which is further made to fertilizer for the all plants around the verdant landscape of Nusa Dua resort. “In addition, we develop a program to conserve rare plants,” he said. (BTN/para)
