Klungkung, Ancient Kingdoms

Bakas Levi Rafting
Challenging the Rapids of Bubuh River

Rafting as one of white water adventures seemingly becomes distinctive attraction for Asian and European tourists. Rafting adventures in Klungkung Regency can be experienced through Bakas Levi Rafting.
Bakas Levi Rafting is situated at Kawan Hamlet, Bakas Village Banjarangkan sub-district. To reach the location can be accessed by four-wheeled vehicle (bus) where its road has been asphalted. It will take you some 10-15 minutes from Semarapura city that is only 7 km. From Denpasar, it’s 35 km. Bakas Levi Rafting was initiated in 1995 and officially established in 1996 and has received guests since 1997.
What can you find at Bakas Levi Rafting? According to I Nyoman Suyasa, a rafting guide, this object is best favoured because the environment around the rafting location is supremely stunning, on the right and left side of the river’s stream occurs stone gorge. In addition, its water is still clear and full of challenge. Rapids found along the routes approximately amounts to 30. Those are genuine challenges however they are safe for rafting activity.
Gully of Bubuh River as the frontier of Klungkung and Gianyar Regency is still overly pristine and marvellous. Rafting route passed through along 6 km with the width of river making 3 to 6 metres is covered within one and a half to two hours.

Rafting Operation
On arriving at Bakas Levi Rafting, you will be served with welcome drink before change the clothes. Rafting equipments like clothes and others have been prepared. To reach the location, participants should walk along a concreted-path for 300 metres. It takes about 5 minutes.
The path is made to make easier the access to the Bubuh riverbank. Rafts of which safety condition has been thoroughly checked are ready to use. Here, there are 70 rafts, however only 60 rafts that are operated. “Other 10 remaining rafts are used for back-up in case of emergency,” said Suyasa who was born in 1972.
Rafting equipment like paddle, helmet, life jacket, waterproof bag for keeping camera, passport, wallet et cetera and also throwing string along with karabiner are provided for you. Throwing string is used in emergency case when the rapids suddenly flood. Prior to stepping aboard, rafting guide will introduce the use of such equipments and how to use them.
Also explained, the way to paddle on passing through swift stream, stopping and so forth. Similarly, he gives instruction on seating positions, moving forward or back and swimming properly. This introduction lasts for some five minutes, then continued by test-drive to know more about the condition of raft and other equipments.
Having been completely ready, raft may depart. A raft holds four to six passengers and a rafting guide, depending very much on the type of raft. “A raft conveys four guests and a guide,” Suyasa said. When the river floods during the rainy season, a raft is provided with two guides. It purely means to ensure guest’s safety.
Challenge by challenge has been enjoyed. It’s the time to arrive at finish line. Without being realized, 6 km route has been passed by. Finish point occurs at Pura Dalem Kayu Putih (temple), Tusan Village, Banjarangkan. Here, transport service is at your service that will take you to secretariat of Bakas Levi Rafting while having lunch in various menus of local and Indonesian delicacies. So, what do you think?
