Seminar
and Workshop on Bali Tourism
Sustainable Development
and Law Enforcement
Tourism
seems to have become the right choice for
the tiny Island of Bali with its dense population
and limited natural resources. Behind its
restrictedness, Bali has cultural uniqueness,
customary diversity and allure of nature
that's capable of going along with this
island to premier tourist destination in
the world. Then, 'nothing can be done' as
tourism eventually has set down on supremely
strategic position-and has nearly become
a 'single player' in the economy of Bali
during almost the last three decades.
At a glance, such 'single' strategic position
and existence seem to be right and rational
since tourism, in fact, is capable of giving
contribution at averagely 70% to the Gross
Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Bali,
while agriculture only 20% and industry
10%. Coincidentally, it indicates that any
minor disruptions occur in the tourism sector
can shake the economy of Bali.
Bali Bomb I and II are concrete evidences
that result in grief to the Island of the
Gods; image of Bali spontaneously undergoes
a change; tourism turns sluggish; anxiety
and sudden uncontrollable fear on the community.
Bali that was formerly praised and admired,
loved and pampered is now blasphemed and
insulted.
Perspective am bivalency towards tourism
is increasingly harsh. On the one hand,
many people remain to believe that tourism
is the most promising economic prosperity
to the people of Bali, means of persevering
the nature and culture, can provide with
inspiration and enrichment process, conservation,
adaptation, reconstruction and reinterpretation
towards culture. On the other hand, no less
people who condemn that tourism is the most
potential to inflict misfortune on the future
and people of Bali.
In the midst of such perspective ambivalence,
choice of Bali to improve the economy is
distinctly restricted. Within this restrictedness,
option of tourism seems the most obvious.
Starting from such manifold and multi-phenomena
problems, Chamber of Commerce and Industry
of Bali Province and regencies/municipality
throughout Bali as well as entire associations
have an initiative to discover inputs for
the sake of Bali's image recovery post-bomb
