"Ogoh-ogoh"
Festival at Sanur
Ogoh-Ogoh
(papier mâché demons) Festival
will be held at Sanur, 24 February 2006,
at 05.00 pm. Hundreds of ogoh-ogoh will
be carried by local artists showing off
their attraction for 8 to 12 minutes.
This attraction will be performed on Jalan
Bypass Ngurah Rai Denpasar, starts at the
intersection of Jalan Danau Buyan (in front
of McDonald) and finishes at Jalan Hang
Tuah (in front of Sanur Paradise Plaza).
Prior to the festival, the ogoh-ogohes are
placed on Jalan Danau Beratan and after
the happening are put along the west section
of Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai. So, the street
users at Sanur area should be take care
at all times, as there will be a street
closure.
Participants of the festival are sekehe
teruna-teruni (customary village youth club),
groups of junior, senior high school and
university students. Styles of ogoh-ogoh
competed may be taken from the figures in
Ramayana, Mahabhara ta, Sutasoma epic or
Tantri story. Criteria of the assessment
for the jury panel will be the composition
(arrangement, anatomical detail, colour,
accessories), creativity (technique, design,
construction making, level of difficulty
and ornamentation), expression (form, character
and philosophy) and presentation (compactness
of the carrying team, harmony of the art
composition).
