Old
Architecture
In
the bustling city of Denpasar, visitors
are bored with the crowds and modern buildings,
especially along the main street. It is
difficult to see traditional architecture,
amid the urban modern building. In this
circumstance, the seen is western style
architecture, but the unseen is traditional
architecture which is situated beyond the
seen especially at Balinese temple worshiping
by the local citizens as the host. One of
them is the temple of Dalem Toh Jaya (clan
temple) at Lumintang, Jalan A. Yani Denpasar.
There are twelve shrines with black roofs,
constructed of brick without carving, ornament
and relief, a simple architecture. The cloth
adorning all shrines on the temple festival
is plain without foliage, using the basic
colors such as red, black, yellow and white.
The surrounding is small forests and bush,
so the wind is breezy. The best time to
visit this interesting temple is on its
own temple festival when people of Lumintang
(the host) the village of Kapal (Badung
Regency) and Belayu (Tabanan) flock together.
On the occasion, two barongs from outside
Lumintang: Barong Ket (bear) and Barong
Landung (man barong) having a night at the
temple. At midnight, many people are in
a trance with their own keris (dagger).
