are 54 historical photos about Bali in past
times exhibited here. Some of them are photos
from an American photographer, Robert. A.
Koke. He lived in Bali with his wife, Louise

at Kuta beach.
Louise also wrote a book entitled 'Our Hotel
in Bali, How a Young American Couple Built
the Kuta Beach Hotel in 1936', herpainting
and photos that belong to her husband became
the illustrations for her book. Robert.
A. Koke recorded the beauty of nature and
culture of Bali through its photos, but
his wife showed her love of Bali through
her paintings.
All photos were exhibited at Museum Neka
in 1993. On that occasion Robert.A. Koke

Museum
Neka Combines Two Paintings
Although it was painted at the different
times, actually both works are suitable
to combine. The combination was held in
1980 by Suteja Neka, the owner of Museum
Neka. "The man in the painting looks
like to be admired the woman. Both of them
lean against the door with a three dimensions
image," said Suteja while adding: "Perhaps
the painter, Abdul Aziz did'nt know about
it."
bdul Aziz, was born in 1928 at Purwokerto
(Central Java) and died in Bali in 2002.
He graduated from Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia
(ASRI) literary The Academy Art of Painting
and Sculpting Indonesia, in Yogyakarta.
In 1959, he went to Italy with the cost
of education donated from The Indonesian
Government and studied at The Academia in
Belle Arti (Roma).
Abdul Aziz lived in Bali in 1966 and became
a lecturer at the Faculty of Technique,
Painting and Sculpting Department, Udayana
University, Denpasar. Through his work he
succeed to reveal the three-dimensions space.
The shadow of figures break through the
side of the picture, because it's based
on white colours as its background.
Technically, Abdul Aziz often leaves the
line of his paintbrush on his canvas. This
is expressingspontaneous impression; actually
the painter is very concerned with the visual
powers and rational controlling.
Volumetric and shadows on the frame, are
the rational work remarks. So that's why,
Abdul Aziz sometimes chooses other mediums,
except oil colours. The painter was known
as a multi talentedartist because he can
play the violin, and also other musical
instruments beside being a sculptor. His
works are made of stone and timber (sawo
kecik) that appear next to his paintings
at Museum Neka.
Abdul Aziz died on the 22 January 2002 and
was buried at the Moslem cemetery, Beng
Village, Gianyar.
