Gold Trophy Achiever in the THK Awards Competition
The
Ritz-Carlton Resort & Spa Bali is the
gold trophy winner for the category of boutique
resort on the competition of Tri Hita Karana
(THK) Awards 2005. To Bali Travel News,
Prami Pratiwi, Public Relation Manager and
I Gede Arya Pering Arimbawa, Executive Housekeeper
of The Ritz-Carlton tell that THK activities
at their hotel until accomplishing to achieve
gold trophy for two years in succession.
Since
joining the competition in 2002, their party
establishd THK team at The Ritz-Carlton.
This team, according to Gede, is assigned
to record and document all activities both
within and outside the hotel pertaining
to THK. In addition, this team has the duty
to provide with particulars to management
and the owner on the advantage to join the
THK Awards competition. "To sum up,
duties of the team are associated with the
internal and external ones," utters
Nyoman who has ever become the operational
manager at Ibah LuxuryVilla, Ubud.
Winning the gold trophy for two years successively
signifies that Ritz-Carlton thoroughly implements
the THK concept harmoniously and balanced.
This matter is discernible in terms of several
activities carried out. For instance, every
August and October, a ritual is regularly
held at hotel temple by involving the surrounding
community. Then, their party also invites
a religious personage to give enlightenment
every two months to the entire hotel employees.
"It's activity intended to maintain
the harmony in the parhyanganaspect (relation
with God)," he says.
Meanwhile, implementation of the pawongan
(harmonious relation among the fellow humans)
aspect is observable from the growth of
concordant relation amongst the employees
and with the surrounding community such
as environmental clean up done together.
"At the same time, it meant to make
better the palemahan (harmonious relation
to physical environment) aspect," says
Gede.
Other activity of pawongan aspect conducted
by The Ritz-Carlton until it attains the
gold trophy is the management rewards the
employee having outstanding achievement
at hotel. For this purpose, their party
makes an effort to deliver objective assessment
because their achievement and loyalty appraised
through their daily activity. The management
also accepts some particulars in order that
the THK team of The Ritz-Carlton obtains
budget on the 2006 budget plan. "In
fact, the proposal is approved," he
says while adding that should there any
problems arise pertaining to the employees,
there are always communication through socio-religious
unit established by the employees themselves.
Furthermore, on certain events, the hotel
invites their employees together with the
family.
In the meantime, activity of the employees
and local residents is packed in such a
way in some programs. Even since 2003, The
Ritz-Carlton has become foster parent for
cleanliness of the surroundings of Besakih
Temple. "This trust makes the hotel
party seriously think of and refurbish the
toilet available around the Besakih Temple,"
declares Gede Arya while expects that government
is willing to lend a hand to straighten
up the local villagers that frequently bother
the guests.
For palemahan aspect, according to Nyoman
Wirantaja, Assistant Chief Engineering,
is the implementation of integrated waste
disposal system. The system of water and
sewage treatment plan developed bythe hotel
has been tested and does not contaminate
the surrounding environment. "This
system is economical and linked to all existing
waste," he says.
Other palemahan aspect is reflected by the
composition of existing buildings. Of the
7.4 hectares land of the hotel, only 30%
allocatedto buildings, while the remaining
70% to open green space. It's no surprising
if the hotel being enclosed with several
kinds of trees and plants looks so green
and shady though it nestles tranquilly on
the limestone hill area that was previously
barren.
