Bali Tourism Recovery Through Exhibition

At the present time, the craftsmen of Bali have not been unified yet, either in the raw material procurement or marketing aspect, whereas the potential of Bali’s handicraft is somewhat prodigious and if managed seriously, will improve the welfare of the craftsmen themselves. The Head of Bali Regional Handicraft Council, Mrs. Mas Beratha and Head of Krama Bali Cooperative (KKB) Satria Naradha said so on the opening the Bali’s Handicraft Market at the Bali Gift & Souvenir Market (Pasar Oleh-Oleh Bali) at Jalan Raya Kuta Street No.88, Kuta on last Monday (24/4).

Other than Handicraft Market, at the same occasion also the operation of Bali Gift & Souvenir Market (Pasar Oleh-Oleh Bali) and Bali Donuts was inaugurated, constituting a new breakthrough of Balinese community in making pastry and cake. Mas Beratha marked the inauguration with the signing of an inscription. High officials attending the event were the Heads of Regional Handicraft Council of regency/city throughout Bali, Assistant II of Bali Governor Mr.Sugiartha, Regent of Badung Anak Agung Gde Agung, Regent of Bangli Nengah Arnawa and the Mayor of Denpasar A.A. Puspayoga.
According to Mrs. Mas, the exhibition is expected to become one of the efforts to recover the languid condition of Bali tourism in recent times. “We expect many foreign buyers will come in person to the handicraft locations, because the handicraft products of Bali are favoured by tourists,” she affirms.
Through this exhibition, she was feeling sure that there would be positive interaction between the producers and craftsmen of Bali, which generally involves rural community. Excluding performing the exhibition, product introduction can be carried out through name card exchange, website, brochure or other means of information. “Tourism sector is the greatest industry in Bali being relied on to become an activator to the economy of this region,” she stated.
In the meantime, Satria Naradha said that the Gift & Souvenir Market is the showcase for the Bali’s craftsmen and a centre to market the handicraft products of Balinese people. “Through this event, the Bali Gift & Souvenir Market (Pasar Oleh-Oleh) will discharge the data collection of the Balinese craftsmen,” he said, while adding that handicraft sector will be worked on maximally to boost the prosperity of Balinese people.
Observed, the Bali Gift & Souvenir Market (Pasar Oleh-Oleh Bali) does not only display durable handicraft products but also presents international food as bread. “For instance, Bali Donuts here has been processed modern,” he says.
The current Bali Handicraft Market 2006 shows full participation of craftsmen from all regencies and cities across Bali and will last till December. Other than a handicraft exhibition, the Bali Gift / Souvenir Market (Pasar Oleh-Oleh Bali) also executes a couple of art activities, starting from 06.00 to 09.00 in the morning. “Here, the craftsmen are expected to be able to meet the buyers in person or exchange ideas with the other fellow craftsmen,” he adds.
