Rubbish Cleansing Movement
Cleanliness
is one of the major factors determining
the success of a tourist destination. However,
this factor is becoming a weak point of
Bali as premier tourist destination in the
world. People’s awareness of the importance
of environmental cleanliness at the surroundings
is still low. In relation to this problem,
the Bali Environmental Impact Management
Agency (Bapedalda) is going to campaign
a mid-term programme to realize a clean
and self-contained Bali in 2015 through
environmentally based villages (DSL). Vision
of this programme is to make the territory
of each customary village (desa pakraman)
clean, healthy, everlasting and beautiful
in conformity with the values of Tri Hita
Karana (THK), namely values of Hinduism
on harmony and balance in inter human relation,
human to its environment and human to the
Creator (Almighty God).
Later, the vision of this campaign will
be implemented through several missions
to generate the community in improving the
cleanliness, health, conservation and allurement
of the customary village, increase the participation
and skill of the community in the processing
of solid (rubbish) and liquid waste, encourage
the people’s discipline in controlling
the environmental contamination and destruction
through immersion programmes and reinforcement
of awig-awig or legislation of the customary
village.
As initial step in implementing the programme,
Bapedalda held the "Plastic Rubbish
Cleansing Movement Through Environmentally-based
Village" in all regencies throughout
Bali. This movement Village (Tabanan), Tuesday
(20/6) and will be followed by other villages
in each respective regency in Bali. Several
circles warmly applauded this movement.
One of them was the Association of THK Observers
and Performers. It is one of the organizations
putting concern and caring for the environmental
conservation in relation to tourism activity
in Bali. This care was expressed by Head
of THK Association, Sudika Redjonta, on
attending the socialization of such movement
at the office of Bapedalda, Wednesday (7/6).
"We are ready to assist the school
children by providing them with 1000 plastic
bags to amass the plastic rubbish at the
surrounding environment," he says while
responding to the complaint of an NGO from
Pupuan (Tabanan) about the lack of cleanliness
apparatus. On another occasion, Mr. Sudika
Redjonta also conveyed his care for the
conservation and re-greening programme in
Bali. "Should there be any party that
needs assistance, we are also ready to help
them by providing plant seedlings for re-greening
or conservation programmes," he added.
