Rewards for
Tax Payers in Denpasar
The downturn of tourist
visits to Bali makes the tourism businesspeople
on the island lose their cool temper. Failing
to attract tourists, they are now facing
other problems like the obligation to pay
government tax.
Due to the decline of tourist visits as
mentioned above, the revenue of hotel taxes
also dropped. Within the first semester
of this year 2006, revenues from hotel taxes
dropped drastically compared to the same
period in last year. As a result, the targeted
hotel tax of IDR 35 billion (US$ 40 million)
is ensured to fail. This was stated by the
Head of Revenue Affairs of Denpasar, Drs.
I.B. Subrata, in the midst of a rewards
presentation to the best hotel and restaurant
tax payers at Inna Sindhu Beach Hotel Resort
& Meeting, Sanur, Monday (31/7).
Observed, the revenue of hotel tax this
year only amounts to IDR 2.2 billion (US$
245.000) every month. This figure is much
less than the monthly target set at IDR
2.8 billion. On that account, he was sure
that the target of IDR 35 billion would
not be attained. "Though the hotel
tax decreases, the prospect of the restaurant
tax is still good, so the target of IDR
9 billion will be achieved," he explained.
To drive the tax payment, his party has
delivered rewards to the best taxpayers.
At least, there were 21 taxpayers of star
hotels, non-star hotels and restaurants
that received the rewards. Made Westra,
Secretary of Denpasar Municipality representing
the mayor, presented those rewards in person.
For the year 2006, Bali Hyatt Hotel obtained
the predicate as the best taxpayer for star
hotel category. This hotel was entitled
to achieve certificate and cash prize worth
IDR 10 million. Its runner up was the Sanur
Paradise Plaza attaining a cash prize of
IDR 9.5 million, third place went to the
Santrian Beach Resort (IDR 9 million), fourth
place to the Santrian Beach Cottage (IDR
8.5 million), the fifth to Inna Sindhu Beach
(IDR 8 million) and the sixth to Sativa
Sanur Cottage (IDR 7.5 million). In the
meantime, Hotel Tamukami, Hotel Dewangkara
and Gazebo Hotel respectively won cash amounting
to IDR 5 million.
Meanwhile, for non-star (jasmine) hotel,
coming out on top was the Hotel Nikki by
earning an IDR 5 million cash prize. Then,
it was followed by the Hotel Sri Phala (IDR
4.5 million), Hotel Parigata (IDR 4 million)
and The Gangsa Villa, Hotel Palm Garden
and Hotel Cianjur respectively won IDR 2.5
million.
Finally the restaurant category: First winner
was Tiara Dewata Food Centre earning an
IDR 5 million cash prize and then the second
and third were respectively Cianjur Restaurant
(IDR 4.5 million) and McDonald’s (IDR
4 million). In the meantime, Ryoshi Restaurant,
Wong Solo Fried Chicken and Dunkin Donut’s
respectively obtained cash prizes amounting
to IDR 2.5 million. (BTN/015)
