The
60th Anniversary of India in Bali
Indian-Indonesian Long Historical Nexus
The 60th Anniversary
of Indian Independence, Tuesday (15/8) was
celebrated by Indian citizens at the Indian
Cultural Centre (ICC) Bali, Renon. The commemoration
was exceptional to Bali, as it was attended
by Indian Ambassador, Mrs. Navrekha Sharma
who also held similar commemoration in Jakarta
in the morning. "As Indian Ambassador
to Indonesia, her coming to celebrate the
Independence Day of India here has significant
meaning due to existence of long historical
nexus between Bali and India," said
Mr. Awanish Tiwari to Bali Travel News.
It was reaffirmed by the statement of Navrekha
Sharma at the courtyard of ICC Bali. "India-Indonesia
has an extremely long history," she
said while adding that hundreds of Indonesian
vocabulary has the same meaning and pronunciation
as what used by Indian people in their daily
life today. "More than that, when Islam
entered Indonesia, role of Indian people,
chiefly traders from Gujarat region (India)
were inseparable."
According to Navrekha who is the first Indian
woman coming in an ambassador, the relationship
of India-Indonesia, particularly Bali should
be maintained continuously, either in the
sphere of arts, education or culture. "It’s
the reason why ICC opened its office in
Bali, so the Balinese can learn and understand
more about the cultural relationship between
India and Indonesia," she added.
Awanish Tiwari, Deputy Director of ICC Bali
also added that since ICC Bali was inaugurated,
many people of Bali learned to dance Indian
classical dances. One of those dances is
the Bharata Natyam, a dance that usually
performed at temples as a presentation to
goddesses. Meanwhile, ICC Bali appointed
Miss Nandini Krishna a dance instructor
and Dr. Aruna Shukla a yoga instructor.
"They are two Indians expert at their
respective field and came to Bali to introduce
Indian culture," he observed. (BTN/Rai)
