Colossal
Cak 5000
New Record in the World’s History
After successfully
hosting the Bali International Kite Festival
last August, the Tanah Lot temple complex
in Tabanan, West - Bali, which is a major
tourism attraction, will host another spectacular
event, namely The Colossal Cak. Cak is the
short version for the famous and popular
Kecak Dance. This "a cappella Cak"
involves over 5.000 dancers and will be
held upcoming Friday (29/9). It has been
assured that this dance will become a momentous
record in the world’s history, because
whereas the ordinary Kecak - Dance is usually
performed by 50-75 dancers, it is now played
by more than 5.000 dancers.
Colossal
Cak 5000" is composed by the choreographer,
Mr. I Gusti Ngurah Agung Suparta. His dancers
comprise artists, students, youth clubs
of customary villages, civil servants of
the regional government, Arm Forces and
women organizations from Tabanan. "We
set a target for only 5000 supporting dancers.
In fact, it reaches 5400 dancers,"
said the Regent of Tabanan, Adi Wiryatama,
to Bali Travel News.
Mr. Adi Wiryatama,as the initiator of the
event, added that "Cak" supported
by 5000 dancers would serve as peace echo
reverberated from Tanah Lot. "Its spirit
is to excite the togetherness and cohesiveness.
We’d better do something real for
Bali than complaining," he uttered.
It is expected that this happening would
be able to retrieve the image of Bali tourism
from its sluggish condition. "Its proof
is the success of the Bali International
Kite Festival that was capable of uplifting
the image of Tabanan as world’s secure
and peaceful tourist destination,"
he observed while adding that within this
year two other great events would be held,
namely the international boxing championship
and golf tournament.
In the meantime, I Made Sujana, Operation
Head of the Tanah Lot Tourist Object, added
that this rarely staged art performance,
will be held in front of the Tanah Lot Temple,
precisely on the fringe of the beach. The
dancers would encircle the temple. However,
since at the south of the temple there are
many sharp rocks so the performance would
be carried out within the formation of a
¾ circle, namely at the north, west
and east side of the temple.
Spectators would be allocated the space
at the area of Enjung Galuh temple (west
of the location). Meanwhile it is estimated
that at least 5.000 foreigners will watch
it from the fringe of the beach with the
capacity of 7,000 to 10,000 persons. "Starting
from early morning up to the time of the
"Cak" performance, numerous entertainments
will be presented, like Balinese pop songs,
comedy, joged bumbung dance and door prizes,"
he remarked.
Sujana is confident that the Colossal Cak
will again introduce Tanah Lot to foreign
visitors. "Through this grandiose event,
the visit to Tanah Lot is not only intended
for the beach, temple and sunset, but also
watching a cultural performance," he
added.
Daily average of visitors to Tanah Lot has
now reached 7,000 to 8,000 persons. "This
event will clearly increase the visit to
14,000 persons. When the International Kite
Festival was held here, the number of visitors
reached 86,000 persons, including foreign
tourists," explained Sujana.
This unique event also includes other activities,
such as: surfing, weaving and drawing competitions
and art & culture performances. The
CAKolosal initiative is one of Tabanan’s
efforts to start the Destination management
program, to develop the Tabanan regency.
This event aims to encourage tourism in
Tabanan. The government of Tabanan is hosting
this event to create business partnerships
opportunities that will improve the development
of the Tabanan regency.
The tourism industry of Bali is whole heartedly
supporting this event and we all hope that
all of our visitors are taken this unique
opportunity, to be part of this world record
breaking spectacle. Ask your hotel or any
travel agent how to go there. (BTN/015)
