When spending your holiday in Bali you will miss something if you have not savoured the Balinese succulent cakes. These light refreshments have mouth-watering and distinctive flavours. Its making is categorized to be unique as it makes use of traditional manners. For instance: the rice is pounded by using a stone mortar and natural colouring agents from plants are used as well. So it is this sweetener that applies Balinese sugar (coconut sugar).

Balinese cakes comprise several types, shapes and flavours. Formerly, these cakes were presented when people organized a customary and religious ceremony, volunteer work or thanksgiving party. Today, they are easy to get at traditional markets, cake shops, and supermarket or even at star rated hotels.
In the Sanur tourist resort, Balinese cakes are many times presented at dessert menu at hotels. They are not only served to local guests but also to foreigners. However, the serving method for them (foreign tourists) is made different, so they look more appealing and attractive.
If you happen to stay at the Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel Resort & Spa, this delight of Balinese traditional cakes can be enjoyed here. This first five-star hotel in Sanur area consistently serves Balinese cakes on every event organized both at national and international ones.
According to Ida Ayu Apriyanti, the Public Relation Manger, Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel Resort & Spa, on every coffee break will prepare two different kinds of Balinese cake on offer. As a general rule, they are combined with cheese and Balinese sugar. On the next break, another kind of cake will be served so you will never get bored. "There are a wide selections of cake prepared in order the guests will never be fed up," she told Bali Travel News.
Kinds of Balinese cake served consist of the jaja bikang, lapis, bendu, pisang rai and pisang goreng (fried banana). Besides, it also provides additional servings such as melinjo cracker, peanut and cendol (doughy rice-flour droplets used in cold drinks containing coconut milk). These cakes are presented naturally, namely by means of banana leaf as base and ornament of young coconut leaf. "We’d like our guests to really feel the atmosphere of Bali," she uttered while admitted that those cakes were made by hotel employees under guidance of the Executive Chef, I.B. Alit Suka.
A corresponding situation also occurs at the Hotel Griya Santrian, Sanur. Balinese cakes are served on particular occasions such as the Bali Night, Cocktail Party or function of special request. Its kinds also vary like klepon, fried banana, pisang rai, pulung-pulung ubi, bubuh sumsum, bubuh ketan, giling-giling, bikang, dadar and bendu. "We serve the cakes as per request," pronounced Sayang Mustika, the Human Resources Manager of Griya Santrian.
