Bagus Agro Plaga
To Offer the Allurement of Farming Realm
Bali has the Eka
Karya Botanical Garden at Bedugul, offering
a moderately cool climate with several
species of trees, vegetables, peppers,
flowers and tourist attractions at Lake
Beratan. Similarly, the scenery of Kintamani
comes up with its fascinating rows of
casuarinas trees, distinctive tangerine
and activities of fishermen at the Lake
Batur.
Now,
try to make a trip to ‘Bagus Agro
Plaga’. Apart from providing a refreshing
atmosphere along with several kinds of
trees, you will also observe the fascination
of Mount Agung, Mount Batur and the spirit
of Mount Batukaru.
The Bagus Agro Plaga is situated at Plaga
Village – Petang, some 30 minutes
or 20 km from the Sangeh tourist object
and some 46 km north of Denpasar. Its
topography is terraced with cool climate
ranging between 17o and 31o Celsius.
According to Mr. Bagus Surya Dharma, the
Financial Manager of the Bagus Discovery
Company that manages this agro-tourism
project, out of the total 18 hectares
land, 14 hectares have been utilized for
tourism object in which 6 hectares of
the land is cultivated with various sorts
of vegetables and flowers. Among the vegetables
planted are tomato, large and small chili,
eggplant, cucumber, carrot and others.
Meanwhile, flowers like gladiolus, tuberose,
lily, daisy paper and now the balloon
flower are under cultivation.
Aside
from those plants, "Bagus Agro Plaga"
also cultivates the plants of local fruits
such as mangosteen, Balinese tangerine,
avocado, guava, durian, snake fruit and
so forth. Coffee plants growing big emanate
characteristic colour of nature namely
the nuance of countryside realm and its
beans could be sold at local markets.
In the meantime, the big and small plants
are deliberately let grow freely to append
the coolness of the climate.
To maintain and manage such farmland,
25 farmers are employed and they live
there. "We will shortly establish
a laboratory as a supporting facility
for the Senior High School of Agriculture
that exists at the vicinity of the village.
This school of agriculture was inaugurated
in last June 2006. Hopefully, this laboratory
can be of much benefit to the students
for their field works practice,"
he said.
Explained, except for being intended for
agricultural purpose, the "Bagus
Agro Plaga" is also designed as a
tourist object. For that purpose, supporting
facilities have been provided like restaurant,
villa and wantilan hall. Visitors with
family or friends can come down in favour
of a special accommodation in the form
of bale bengong or gazebo. There are five
gazebos that could make over convenience
and tranquility to visitors. "They
can cook or grill fish by themselves here,"
he uttered.
The "Bagus Agro Plaga" is open
every day starting from 08.00-18.00 Local
Time. "However, we will be glad to
extend a facility to those who would like
to organize special festivities,"
he added.
Mendra Astawa, Sales Executive of Bagus
Discovery, added that visiting this farm
needs no entrance ticket. "So, should
you intend to make a visit here, simply
register to you travel agent because the
trip to this farm has been included in
the package sold by agents," he said
while adding that the Bagus Agro Plaga
is owned by two companies, namely PT Puri
Bagus Citra Lestari and PT BTDC Nusa Dua,
where Puri Bagus is serving as the operator
and handling its marketing management.
