Ubud Writers and Readers Festival
The
Ubud Writers & Readers Festival is conducted
every year in Ubud. Its participants do
not only consist of writers but also readers,
either from homeland or overseas. One of
those participants is Nan Pulsford. She
and her companions intentionally came to
Bali to participate in such annual event.
"Our friend, Janet, let us know that
the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival would
be organized in Ubud. Hence, we come with
some companions," Nan revealed.
According to her, the event was significantly
intriguing and educative. "The event
is fantastic and we followed it with great
joy. There, we have seen such an interesting
literature. Similarly, we had an opportunity
to join a cooking class guided by Janet,"
said this Australian visitor.
Also added, the opening ceremony of the
festival was remarkably tempting where they
could see children dancing beautifully and
elegantly. He admitted to be so impressed
on by Ubud, the execution of this interesting
event, but also on the existing architecture
of buildings. "We purchased a book
on Bali Architecture, even though we are
not too good at technology, but it is so
interesting," she told while laughing.
After the event, they spent their holiday
in Seminyak, precisely at Hotel Sofitel.
"Sofitel is convenient and a nice place
to stay in. I love it so much," said
Nan briefly while relaxing with companions
at Hotel Sofitel Seminyak, Friday (6/10).
Spike
Stewart
Glad and Sad in Bali
Hi
my name is Spike Stewart but you can call
me Spike! I’m from Melbourne, Australia.
One reason why I got interested in Bali
is due to its people. Wherever I go, they
(Balinese people) persistently give their
sincere smile to me. That makes me feel
so convenient during my stay here. However,
there is one thing I deeply regret namely
my incapability of communicating in their
language. I first came to Bali with family
in 1991. From that point onward, I regularly
come to Bali every year.
Other than happy stories experienced in
Bali, there was also miserable story carved
on our visit to this beautiful island. Last
2002, I lost one of my beloved sons, precisely
on the bomb explosion at Sari Club. Such
experience really displeased me. I put a
curse on those people having the heart to
do cruel deeds that killed hundreds of people.
My suggestion is to make calendar of events
provided by hotels and travel agents. I
realized that I missed a very important
moment in Bali, but of not knowing it before.
I feel so regretful that I could not attend
such event.
On that account, I expect that all hotels
or travel agents could provide an up-to-date
calendar of events. Whether it’s issued
weekly or monthly, in short, it should be
available to be used as guidance in scheduling
trips during the visit in Bali. It will
not make us confused and no need to ask
questions all the time about where to go.
If it has been well prepared, it will be
easier to inform other family members or
relatives who are still overseas. At the
same time, it will help promote Bali.
Antonio
Bali for its Culture
In
affable smile commenced the encounter of
Bali Travel News with this visitor from
Italy domiciling in Canada. "Hi, my
name is Antonio, how are you? (He said in
Bahasa Indonesia)." Surprise was the
first impression perceived at the time when
we met him sunbathing at Legian Beach.
Do not get amazed that this tourist is capable
of speaking fluent Bahasa Indonesia. Though
he is foreigner he has spent between two
and six months of his time on exploring
the hidden uniqueness of Indonesia. "Since
last 2000, I spent 2-6 months on holiday
and explored Indonesia," he revealed
while adding that he was so interested in
the Balinese culture. "I come to Bali
just for its culture and language."
According to him, Bali has an intriguing
culture. On that account, he would like
to know more about it. "Probably, I’m
one of the tourists who are less fond of
making a visit to tourist objects as others
coming to Bali. When visiting Bali, the
most attractive thing to me is going to
places where Balinese people do their activities
such as the traditional market," observed
Antonio.
Nevertheless, this Italian admitted that
he had a favorite place in Nusa Dua, namely
Geger Beach. "It is my favorite hide-out,
because the beach is so beautiful along
with its white sand. This beach is distinctly
tranquil to relax and away from the car
noises. I will go there to enjoy the sun,
read my book while lying down," said
the tourist whose e-mail address at: tcamaiani@yahoo.com.
