Bangli to Open Volcanic Museum
Another
monumental physical development that is
undertaken by the administration of Bangli
Regent I Nengah Arnawa is the Batur Volcanic
Museum. This museum sits strategically at
the Kintamani tourist area, precisely at
the parking lot of Penelokan. Ground breaking
of the construction project was undertaken
in last 2003 and right now it has entered
the completion phase up to May 2007 when
it will be officially inaugurated.
The museum is set up on 1.5 hectares of
land, in collaboration with the Forestry
Department and is equipped with a showroom
and library. Scheduled, the entire phases
including its contents will be completed
within five years. The first unit consisting
of diorama and observation room is almost
completed (95%), it just needs to set up
the audiovisual equipment for the three
dimensional (3D) film presenting the volcanism
and geological history.
The existence of the only museum of this
kind in Indonesia is expected to enhance
the community’s appreciation and research
development on volcanism in Indonesia as
well as the development of alternative ecotourism
potentials in Indonesia.
According to the documents available at
the office of the Bangli Regional Development
Agency, the concept plan is as follows:
(1) Traditional—referring to the nawasanga
concept under laying the implementation
of Balinese traditional architectural style
for each building with their respective
function; (2) Analogy—it is analogue
with the rock spill over of the volcanic
eruption spread out craggily; (3) Functional—to
make practical use of the nature. By making
optimal use of the cool climate of Kintamani’s
nature, it is easy to control the temperature
in the rooms. Connection of each function
can be carried out harmoniously; (4) Harmony—it’s
monumental but not looking overdone, pompous
or arrogant; and (5) Environment—in
harmony with the nature of the hilltops
at the vicinity of Mount Batur. (BTN/Suka)
