From Bali to Digital World

DUA – The broadcast and multimedia
industry in Indonesia has developed
rapidly. The reformation and democratization
era in Indonesia has initiated event
more progress in broadcasting content
and broadcast technology. In addition
management models and ownership
in this industry has changed significantly.
In order to expand the latest knowledge
and advances in broadcast and multimedia
business in Indonesia, International
Broadcast and Multimedia Expo 2006
(IBEX 2006) was held in Bali. This
annual event is a history record
in Indonesia broadcast industry
with the aim of fulfilling one of
its intension to have an annual
international meeting forum. The
forum was created as a place where
people can create business relations,
see the latest broadcast equipment
exhibition, for knowledge exchange
in conference and other kinds of
activities. The IBEX 2006was held
from 15 –18 November in Bali
International Convention Center,
Nusa Dua. The opening ceremony was
held on Wednesday (15/11) and was
attended by Mr. Sofyan Djalil the
Minister of Communication and Information
Technology Republic of Indonesia
who was representing the President
of the Republic of Indonesia and
officially opened the event by straitening

1st
Anniversary
KUTA
- 4 October 2006, Legian-Bali. The
first All Season Hotel in Asia was
celebrating its 1st anniversary.
After one year operating by featuring
a fresh and colorful design and
concept, All Seasons Resort Legian
is already among the most popular
resorts in Bali. Dedicated to all
the generous and friendly staff,
the General Manager, Mr. Kahar Salamun
together with Ms. Dian, the executive
secretary (All Seasons’ first
employee) sliced the top of traditional
yellow rice cone. A week before
the celebration, all staff organized
fun sport competitions between them.
Soccer, badminton, chess and some
more traditional games such as a
rucksack racing, sprint racing with
a bottle on the head and more fun
games. The overall winner was announced
during the celebration. In addition,
we shared this great moment with
the children at "Yappenatim
orphanage" in Gianyar regency
by giving them some food supplies

Tourism
Survey
MEDAN
– The Research Centre for
Culture and Tourism of Udayana University
Bali, is assisting PT Binakarya
Dayakusuma Jakarta in running a
survey on tourism in North Sumatra
province. This survey was held recently,
involving some senior researchers,
from the research centre, including
Agung Suryawan Wiranatha, A. A.G.
Raka Dalem, Ida Bagus Pujaastawa,
Ketut Sardiana, and I Putu Anom.
The purpose of the survey was to
collect data, based of the information
which will be used to provide recommendations
in boosting tourism development
in North Sumatra province. This
year, the Ministry of Culture and
Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia
provided some assistance in helping
some provinces located outside Java
and Bali islands, to boost up their
tourism development. "Based
on the screening by our experts,
than three provinces were prioritized
to study this year, i.e. North Sumatra,
East Nusa Tenggara and South Sulawesi",
Agung Suryawan, said. In the picture

were taking some data on Ajibata
Harbour, mainland of Sumatra, before
crossing Lake Toba to Samosir Island

at Food & Beverage Staff Party

DUA - Food and Beverage (F&B)
team at Meliá Bali Villas
& Spa Resort organized a staff
party on Sunday, 8 October 2006.
The gathering is intended to release
pressure and keep togetherness among
co workers. The gathering was held
near Meliá Bali beach, Amphi
Theatre Beach. Fun games and a lot
of prizes were prepared by F&B
team. It was not only attended by
F&B staff members, but other
departments were also invited to
enjoy the event. The General Manager
of Meliá Bali, Mr. Alfonso
Romero, also attended the event

Assessment
NUSA
DUA – Nusa Dua Tourist Resort,
the first "community" in
the world to be certified by Green
Globe 21, this year took its renewal
assessment of this certification on
November 2-3, 2006. "Preparation
for documentation as well as for a
site visit assessment has been made
prior to assessment and these make
us ready to be assessed by Green Globe.
We asked Mr. Raka Dalem and Agung
Suryawan from Bali Greenery to facilitate
the preparation and accompany us in
the assessment processes", Mrs.
V. Emmy Purnomowati, chairperson of
the green team of BTDC, the management
of Nusa Dua Tourist Resort, said some
days prior to the assessment. Meanwhile,
when asked by the assessor, on the
day of assessment, Mr. Nyoman Cakra,
the 2nd deputy chairman and Anak Agung
Ratna the secretary of the green team,
said that for this year BTDC managements
have done some improvements on their
operation systems. "We have bought
new equipments for handling sewage,
we have updated some programs and
improved operational systems",
Ratna said. Mr. Made Mandra, the president
director of BTDC further added that
the involvement of BTDC Nusa Dua in
Green Globe 21 programs indicates
the commitment of management of this
office in working towards sustainable
tourism, a future trend in tourism

Former
Minister of Tourism
KUTA
- The former Minister of Tourism and
Culture, I Gede Ardika paid a visit
to Bali Rani Hotel and spent two days
at a comfortable suite room. He met
the prominent tourism practitioners
of Bali discussing on how to
revive and further enhance the tourism
sectors in Bali. The meeting took
place on Wednesday (8/11) at Haston
