Heading
for Sustainable Tourism in Bali through
THK Awards
The tourism sector
has developed into the locomotive of our
world’s economy. Virtually all countries
have raced one another to advance their
tourism sector as it can instantly drive
the economic development of the concerned
country. It is caused by the fact that the
progress of tourism sector has a remarkably
influential dual-effect on other sectors.
Nevertheless, the tourism sector is an economic
activity with double and contradictive values.
This sector can encourage the growth of
the economy and on the contrary, it can
lead to social destruction if its development
cannot be controlled optimally.
Bali is an example of case where within
the last 30 years it has been capable of
reversing the role of the agricultural sector.
Therefore, it can be acknowledged why the
economy of Bali is extremely influenced
by the tourism sector.
Since Bali has no other natural resources
beyond the potential to develop the tourism
sector, whether it wants to or not, the
tourism sector of Bali has to be supported
in such a way to make it sustainable. It
has been convinced that the THK Awards activity,
that right now has entered its sixth year,
plays an important role to support the sustainability
of the tourism sector.
Tri Hita Karana (THK) is a concept glorifying
the harmony and togetherness (between human
and God, human and its environment, human
and its fellows). When everything works
in harmony it will generate composure in
the management of tourism in Bali.
On the whole, the tourists come from remote
regions, pay high cost for their travelling
and need composure. Any slight fluctuation
in the situation that occurs makes them
feel inconvenient. On that account, the
execution of the THK Awards fundamentally
is intended for the interest of tourism
sector element in general. Therefore, the
execution of THK Awards requires the support
of all parties, notably the components of
tourism in Bali, regional government of
Bali and governments of regency/municipality
across Bali.
