Cultural Approach
Drs.
K.G.Dharma Putra, M.Sc, is lecturer and
investigator of environment pollution at
Udayana University that provided a topic:
"Cultural approach to solve environment
pollution in coastal and sea". The
meaning of the topic was to hand discussion
material on the science of making policies
for costal management and sea areas. The
event entitled: Science meets policy for
coastal management and capacity building
was held in Kuta, 14 - 16 November. The
event was organized in cooperation between
Indonesian and Germany Governments and other
organizations like SPICE (Science for the
Protection of Indonesian Coastal Marine
Ecosystem); LOITZ (Land Ocean Interaction
in the Coastal Zone), IHDP (International
Human Dimensions Program on Environmental
Change) and SEACORM (Southeast Asia Center
for Ocean Research and Monitoring). About
more than 60 scientists from eleven countries,
such as Germany, Netherlands, Australia,
India, England, Philippines and Indonesia,
came together to make a strategy in order
to develop science research that can be
used as a source of governmental policy
to solve the problems in the coastal area
and sea areas.
This man is active in AMDAL (environment
analysis body) as an investigator and also
member of the expert team on Integrated
Coastal Management (ICM) and GEF/UNDP/IMO
Regional Protry in sustaining the environment
based on scientific analysis. The cultural
approach is a very effective one to develop
a positive attitude of the society and industrial
world, so it is easy to be used as a reference
to formulate public policy in solving the

To
keep on establishing and maintaining good

elements played by this slant-eyed man in
hotel business. Ramia Adnyana is the name
of the man serving as Resident Manager of
the Kamandalu Resort & Spa located in
the Ubud tourist resort.
Supplied with rich experiences at a number
of hotels in Bali, this man having the motto
of life ‘relax, focus and have success’
is one of the Balinese men who is successfully
involved in the tourism industry. He started
his career in 1991 at the Bali Padma Hotel
as Front Desk Officer and this graduate
of STP Bali has a strong aspiration to success.
Chief Village/Villa Manager, Sales Executive—European
Market, Sales Manager—Asian Market,
Senior Sales Manager, Assistant Director
of Sales, Director of Sales as well as Management
& Marketing Consultant are some positions
that once coloured the career path of Ramia
at some hotels on this island. Ultimately,
effective January 2006, this hobbyist at
golfing, shopping and travelling officially
joined the Kamandalu Resort & Spa as
Resident Manager—in charge of Sales
& Marketing.
A number of outstanding achievements have
put down his name in the domain of Sales
and Marketing, some of them are his success
to win 11 chartered flights from Hyundai
Dream Tour—South Korea for the period
of 22 December 2000-10 February 2001 (4500
room nights), success to win 6 chartered
flights from the same agent and Lotte Travel
Service from South Korea for the period
of 16 July-16 September 2002 (2500 room
nights) and Best Manager of the Year 2002—Le
Meridien Nirwana Golf & Spa Resort Bali.
Being a Resident Manager who is also in
charge of Sales and Marketing is obviously
not an easy task to undertake. "Make
all staff happy", thus Ramia call the
tagline for harmony of his working relationship.
"By always building trust to all employees,
leading by good example, maintaining working
discipline, keeping all promises for them
and putting priority on team work they will
automatically extend the best contribution
to the company," Ramia says.
On responding the current situation of Bali
tourism, Ramia observes:" Establishing
brand image from Bali by keeping on promoting
and maintaining Bali as the world best tourist
destination with the root of Balinese culture
remains to be well preserved. In addition,
improving the security system and safety
at all tourist destinations should persistently
get serious attention so Bali will become

Fitri Hanifah
Challenges at the Current Circumstances
To
everyone, a task or position devolved by
a company is an opportunity and at the same
time a challenge to show its best competence.
This goes also for Elok Fitri Hanifah, a
woman from Semarang – Java and born
on 16 December 1970. She is entrusted the
position of Sales & Villa Manager of
Sri Phala Resort & Villa since 1 June
2006. To her, the mandate extended is a
responsibility that should be undertaken
as good as possible.
"I like challenges. By these challenges,
I will attempt to do the best for the company
in compliance with the competence at hand,"
said the woman who is familiarly greeted

of sales and marketing, Elok has once established
her long career path at some companies such
at Sales Department of PT Tour East Indonesia
(1996-1998), Reservation Dept. at Bali Adventure
Tours (1998-2000), Reservation Supervisor
at Ida’s Tours & Travel (2000-2002),
Senior Reservation at Penjor Bali Wisata
(2003-2004), Sales Executive at Blue Point
Bay Villas & Spa (2003-2004), Sales
Manager at Ratu Kharisma Villa (2004-2005)
and Sales & Marketing Manager at Mentari
Sanur Hotel (2005-2006).
With the provision of expertise and experience
owned, she is optimistic to bring about
the best for her company. "By this
property owned by the Sri Phala Resort &
Villa, I am optimistic that I can market
it to guests so the hotel occupancy will
increase," she observes confidently.
"In addition, I also expect the effort
of other parties to keep on promoting the
image of Bali overseas so the number of
tourist visits to Bali will persistently
go up," expects this woman who likes
