Meditation
for Controlling Emotion
Emotion
is an energy existing within the human self.
This energy makes one angry, sorrow, nervous,
afraid and jealous. Similarly, it can generate
love, affection, honesty and others. Uncontrolled
emotion will make us nervous and this nervousness
will become the supreme cause of several
diseases. We should know how to use our
emotion and how to control it.
Since the emotion is in the form of energy,
so to control it we should use energy as
well. Energy employed is that produced by
the vibration of sound. There are three
kinds of sound namely aaaaaaa, uuuuuuu,
mmmmmmm. Vibration of the sound ‘aaaaaaa’
relates to the part of belly and under.
The sound ‘uuuuuuuu’ relates
to chest, arm and surrounding organs. While,
the sound ‘mmmmmmm’ relates
to head. Combination of the three sounds
above, aaaaauuuuummmmm, comes in the sound
AUM. This sound has been practiced thousands
years ago, to give balance on the human
body, mind and soul.
This meditation means to balance one’s
emotion and is suitable for those who suffer
from insomnia or habitual sleeplessness.This
problem is caused by imbalances in emotions.
In addition, this meditation is extremely
good for those who frequently feel angry,
strained, nervous, worried and sad. Try
to follow the following steps:
-
Have a seat relaxingly, inhale the long
breath slowly through the nose and while
exhaling the breath, utter the sound ‘aaaaa’.
Feel the presence of delicate vibration
around the stomach and do this for nine
times.
-
Pronounce the sound ‘uuuuu’
in the same way. Feel also the delicate
vibration around the chest, for nine times.
-
Pronounce the sound ‘mmmmm’
in the same manner for nine times. Feel
the delicate vibration around the head.
-
Sit down quietly for a while with both
hands face downwards, cleanse your aura.
Do not touch the body; make your hands
as if they peeled out the dirty layer
from your body. Do this for three times.
-
Uplift your hands and let your palm open
upwards. When it feels to have gone to
sleep, notably around the tips of the
fingers, with the palm remains to face
upwards, this energy is poured into the
body, particularly into the parts that
frequently suffer from illnesses.
-
Later, lie down for 3-15 minutes, stretch
out and be relaxed. Gradually, be back
to the original sitting position with
the eyes stay closed.
-
Repeat to pronounce the sound ‘aaauuummm”.
Feel the delicate vibration occurring
in the stomach, chest and head. Do this
for nine times. Take a breath; release
the breath slowly and open the eyes.
Meditation
at Museums
Museums
are not only for keeping antiques but also
a place to learn culture and personality.
That is why Agung Asrama, Vice Director
of Museum Arma, opened the meditation exercise
“Working Without Stress” in
his museum. This exercise is performed regularly
every Saturday morning and is specially
intended for headmasters of elementary schools
from all over the Ubud District and is free
of charge.
In
this exercise, headmasters are given some
techniques to control stress, anger, sadness
and anxiety to reach spiritual composure,
heart peacefulness and life happiness. “By
the techniques we extend, participants are
expected to be able to reach composure,
peacefulness and happiness. These three
factors are very important to solve various
problems in this uncertain life,”
said Made Bagus Palguna, instructor of Yoga
and Meditation Class at the museum.
Ida Bagus Parwata, who regularly attends
the exercise, feels indebted there. Wayan
Sumaryasa added that at the time of attending
the exercise, he did not only feel calm
and comfortable, but also felt relieved
from all business pressure. Nyoman Cedikiawan
and Ni Kadek Sumini also expressed rather
similar opinions.
Differently, I Ketut Mardika said: “Even
though we don’t belong to the Ubud
area, after attending the first session
I did not feel unhappy to come here from
a distant place, as here, I could find something
that was of benefit to me.”
The Minister of Education and Culture, Wardiman
Djojonegoro, inaugurated this Museum Arma
that is situated among three villages of
art, namely Mas, Ubud and Peliatan, on 9
June 1996. This museum is not only intended
to display painting collections of the museum
owner, but people are also able to learn
and show off their capability, particularly
in the field of art at this venue. For visitors,
apart from being able to enjoy the art works
of the artists of Bali, Indonesia and expatriates,
they can also watch dances and other art
presentations at the open stage of Arma.
In addition, they also learn about the culture
of Bali, like learning how to paint, dance,
play gamelan, sculpture, cook, attend yoga
class, do meditation and others. As the
embodiment of the care of the museums that
exist in the community, Museum Arma held
a Meditation class entitled “Working
Without Stress” that is specially
intended for the headmasters of elementary
schools in the Ubud District area. (BTN/*)
