Bali
International Kite Committee (BIKC) has
resolved the schedule of the International
Bali Kite Festival 2007. Based on the meeting
of the committee, last Friday (12/1), it
was decided that from 9 till 12 August as
the days to play kite in Bali. A number
of preparations have been made to welcome
this international event; amongst them is
a road show to some hotels as well as introducing
the committee to the circles of the tourism
industry of Bali.
Also some kite enthusiasts formed a kite
club in Bali. For instance, the Ayodya Resort
Bali Kite Club, chaired by Badrus Haris
(Resident Manager of the Ayodya Resort Bali),
was inaugurated on Tuesday (9/1) together
with other clubs. “Through this institution,
we like to organize the kite festival professionally,”
explained Made Susilapatra, Chairman of
BIKC.
Remarked, as an element of sport and recreation,
the kite play is supremely favored by the
community, not only the locals but also
that of international communities. At least,
there are 10,000,000 kite aficionados worldwide
primarily the combat-kites have coalesced
into many clubs.
In the meanwhile, according to Susilapatra,
the kites today in Bali have put forward
its identity as a constituent of Balinese
culture. Its community highly respects the
kite as what they do for honoring the gods
and goddess of the heaven. On that account,
kites in Bali are made sacred. In fact,
this activity can become an attraction of
its own so many tourists will intentionally
come to Bali just for seeing these kites.
“Therefore, on the international kite
festival of this year we ensure that it
would be participated by at least 25 countries,”
he announced.
Said, the process of making kites in Bali
is commenced by a sacred process by engaging
temple and high priest. Even, during the
competition, the kites are graced with Balinese
gamelan ensemble accompaniment like the
dynamic beleganjur and other gamelan compositions.
Additionally, the Balinese kites have many
distinctive features. It falls into three
categories namely bebean, pecukan and janggan.
These three kinds have typical shapes and
colors such as red, yellow and black that
in the belief system of the Hindu community
is known as tridatu (three sacred colors).
The Kite festival in Bali has transpired
since 1978, while that of international
level was held for the first time in 1979.
However, this event was not organized professionally.
“Then, in 2006, we attempted to handle
this international event professionally.
Its outcome has made us very proud. We just
expected only 10 countries to participate,
but in fact there were 17 countries participating
in the festival at Tanah Lot,” observed
Made to Bali Travel News.
It is expected that by the establishment
of the permanent committee administrator,
this international event will be managed
more professionally. Administrators of the
Bali International Kite Committee comprises
of the Patron (A.A. Ngurah Rai Giri Gunadhi
and Ida Bagus Ugrasena); Chairman (Made
Susilapatra); Vice Chairman (I Kadek Dwiarmika);
Secretary (R.A. Helmi Ginanti); Treasurer
(Made Yudha); Public Relations (Wisnu Wardana)
and General Affairs (I Made Didir), while
Si Nyoman Adnyana iss appointed as overseer.
