Descendant of Mr. Lange to Meet the Regent
of Badung
In coincidence with the celebration of 200
years of the late Mr. Mads Johansen Lange
on 16-19 September 2007, one of his descendants,
Dr. Iens Olesen met the Regent of Badung,
AA Gde Agung S.H. The graveyard of Mads
Johansen Lange, situated at Jalan Bypass
Ngurah Rai – Kuta, is currently taken
care off by the Regional Government of Badung.
During the meeting, Thursday (11/1), the
regent was accompanied by the Subdivision
Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Drs.
Putu Eka Merthawan, MSi.
The
coming of Mr. Iens to Badung was intended
for making coordination before a special
happening will be performed. It will be
attended by 100 participants of his descendants
spreading throughout the world together
with important officials from several countries.
At the same time, a bronze effigy of Mr.
Lange will be brought to Bali.
According to monitoring at the location,
the surrounding of Mr. Lange’s graveyard
is still disorganized. It is discernible
from a quite few of vile bamboo huts in
front of the graveyard, while at its side
there is also a garbage truck base belonging
to the Badung Clean-Up Services. “Occasionally,
the truck is parked in front of entrance
gate of Mr. Lange’s graveyard,”
said Iens while adding that such matters
really annoyed the allure of grave abode.
On that account, he asked the regent to
participate in maintaining and preserving
the surrounding environment of the graveyard.
Responding to that subject, the Regent of
Badung immediately summoned the related
parties such as the head of Kuta sub district,
Head of Customary Villages and so forth
to follow up the outcome of the meeting.
“Badung Regency as a tourist destination
intends to make the graveyard into pilgrimage
tourism, notably for the European guests,”
said Gde Agung who also requested Dr. Iens
Olensento to take part in promoting the
tourism of Bali in his country.
Mr. Lange was a large-scale merchant from
Denmark. He has performed meritorious services
to the kings in Bali in the matter of logistics
during the expansion of the Bali kingdom
to Lombok. Due to his merits, the king of
Kesiman granted an area of land for his
graveyard. At this moment, the biography
of Mr. Lange is written in a compulsory
book that is obliged to be read by all students
in Denmark. (BTN/*)
