forest you’d better come on Monday-Friday
around 09.00—17.00 local time. Or
you may come on Saturday and Sunday as well.
However the price of its entrance ticket
would be different. This Mangrove Information
Center is good for carrying out training,
research, environmental education and ecotourism.
Originally, the territory of mangrove forest
was used for shrimp and milkfish embankment.
But, in 1992, the government of Bali Province
took back its function into forest. In the
midst of the mangrove forest you will a
meeting room to give initial introduction
on the mangrove plant. Prior to exploring,
visitors would be given information on the
mangrove plants through video presentation.
Escapade within this forest of 101 hectares
is performed on foot through trails (wooden
bridge). Name of trails is made in accordance
with the group of mangrove plant. You can
relax on small huts available in the midst
of the forest. There are five small gazebos
of which names are based on the name of
birds as Javan pond heron, purple heron,
whrimbrel hall, tern hall and spotted dove
hall.
To begin the journey, one should pass through
the Javan pond heron hall. In the midst
of the passage, visitors would encounter
a tower of 10 meters height. From this tower
the visitor can observe many kinds of birds
and their nests sticking on the trees. Within
the passage, visitors will be amazed by
forest animals like lizard, snake and others.
In the meantime, from the tern hall you
will discern the beauty of the sea where
ships come and go in the spread of the ocean
or the ones that are parked in Benoa Harbor.
Tri Wijaya, the Public Relation Officer
of the Mangrove Information Center said
that in the effort to conserve the mangrove
forest his party does not perform special
rituals as what other tourist objects across
Bali do. For maintenance, his party only
carries out seeding and cultivation of the
mangrove plants. In the meantime, several
kinds of animals living there are let in
compliance with the stream of nature. No
cage and no hunting. (BTN/015)
