Ubud
Rare Angon (Ubud Kites Club) Inaugurated
Many people assume that kites are merely
ordinary play-things. However, to the Hindu
community in Bali kite playing is an inseparable
constituent from their life. It retains
a substance that is more than just a play-thing.
They believe in Lord Shiva assuming a form
into Rare Angon, the gods of kite amusement.
This was said by Tjokorda Raka Kertyasa,
a tourism figure from Ubud, on installing
the Ubud Rare Angon at Gunung Lebah Temple,
Ubud-Gianyar, Sunday (25/2).
According
to this Head of Bali Heritage Trust, hobbyist
and enthusiast of kites, it is a kind of
cultural preservation of the national ancestral
heritage. Kites have grown into an integral
element of Balinese culture therefore it
can become a distinctive Bali tourist attraction.
“Likewise, kites are also effectively
used as promotion means of Bali tourism
as this Balinese amusement has deeply rooted
in the mythology and closely associated
with the Balinese religious community,”
he affirmed.
Wayan Suteja Neka also uttered comparable
arguments. This tourism figure and painting
collector also added, Ubud has great potential
to hold such kites competitions. Aside from
its alluring nature, it also has sufficient
wind to shore up. Meanwhile, Ida Bagus Ugrasena
said that the existence of kites in Bali
has gone globally. Even, the kite of janggan
category is supremely admired by the international
kites enthusiasts. “They have confidence
that this kind of kites has a spirit provoking
the emotion,” he said.On that day
was also executed a combat kites competition
or try-out to prepare the athletes of Bali
