Bali Housekeepers Association:
Important Role in Tourism Sector
In hotel business, the role of housekeeper
as provider of cleaning service is, without
doubt, truly important. Moreover Bali as
an international destination surely has
to possess reliable housekeepers to provide
the quality service satisfying the tourists.
It was revealed by I Nyoman Sugiarta, the
Head of Indonesian Housekeeper Association
(IHKA) of Bali Chapter during the working
meeting and seminar executed in Tuban, Bali.
It is said the main purpose of IHKA Bali
is to establish friendship among the fellow
members where the organization would play
an important role in the endeavor to improve
the quality of human resources by upgrading
the knowledge, competence and insight of
the members. “This meeting becomes
a friendship forum among the members of
IHKA Bali and a medium of information exchange
or sharing several solutions to the problems
that are frequently faced at work,”
he observed.
In keeping with the rapid development of
tourism industry in Bali, the 250 members
of IHKA Bali are ready to perform their
task professionally. They are employed in
the hotel industry and also in hospitals.
“Our members are the Executive Housekeepers
from starred hotels, non-starred hotels
and villas across Bali and some hospitals
as well,” he stated.
The presence of IHKA Bali is considered
truly important, particularly for housekeepers
themselves because this organization is
a medium that is capable of accommodating
their existence.
Apart from organizing annual events like
the national working meeting, the IHKA Bali
also has social care to its surrounding
community. For that purpose, they actively
take part in other social activities such
as greening program and making cooperation
with BaliTV in the “wirasa”
(social care) program to help the indigent
people. “It’s a part of our
contribution to the community,” added
Sugiarta.
This organization also actively provides
both internal and external training such
as to tourism schools. This activity is
important considering that reliable housekeepers
in this field are definitely a plus value
in the tourism industry.
The activity held in The Patra Bali on Tuesday
(15/4) also included a seminar entitled
“Welcoming and Making ‘Visit
Indonesia Year 2008’ a Success with
Leadership Pattern Based on Spirituality
Value”. Additionally, the meeting
was also graced with an exhibition by vendors
running business in the field of housekeeping
to display their superior products. (BTN/008)
