—70 tourism stakeholders from
Nangroe Aceh Darussalam province (NAD),
on the western tip of Sumatra Island,
attended a training course on tourism
in Bali, recently. They spent a month
learning and took on job training on
tourism on this paradise island. This
was mentioned by Dewi Aminudin, the
representative of “Badan Rehabilitasi
dan Rekonstruksi” (The board of
Rehabilitation and Reconstruction) NAD-Nias
in Tuban.
The stakeholders, representative of
government offices, tourism associations,
university students and local communities,
learnt about three different things
while in Bali. These were namely capacity
building on institution of tourism business;
tourist guiding; and home industry in
producing souvenirs for supporting tourism
industries. The training instructors
came from Bali Tourism Board, Bali Government
Tourism Office, Bali Government Cultural
Office, Research Center for Culture
and Tourism of Udayana University, Cooperation
Office of Bali Province, Indonesia Tourist
Guide Association, Bali Police Office,
as well as IT experts.
One training instructor, A. A. Gde Raka
Dalem, said that the participants, who
came from the area that suffered severely
from tsunami disaster a few years ago,
had been very serious in taking training
materials. “They were also actively
asking questions”, he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Ricky Avenzora from the
donor institution said that it is expected
that the training could broaden participants’
understanding about tourism and when
they return to Aceh they will be ready
to be tourist guides and will have gotten
better networking in tourism businesses.
