Badung The Center of Tourism

Badung Regency

The regency of Badung extends in a narrow ribbon from the central uplands in the north of the island to the Nusa Dua Peninsula, also known as Bukit, in the south. The Peninsula is strikingly different from the northern fertile volcanic plain, consisting of a slightly-raised limestone plateau surrounded by the sea. Kuta and Jimbaran are to the north and west of the peninsula, while the famous Nusa Dua resort area is on the eastern tip of the peninsula itself.
The Bukit peninsula is connected to the rest of Bali by a narrow neck of land. Here, the Jimbaran bay area has one of the safest and most tranquil white beaches on the whole island. Jimbaran is renowned for the Barong (trance) dance. To the north of the Bukit peninsula is the popular beach resort of Kuta. Its claim to fame owes much to two things, its beach (originally Bali’s best) and the sunset. The beach front is now host to star hotels, except for Legian and Seminyak, where much of the social scene is now centered. The main shops are located along Legian street.
As a tourist destination, Badung is very complete with interesting spots, such as beaches, mountains, and interesting attractions. Kuta, Nusa Dua and Jimbaran beaches, for instance, are well known by tourists. The south of this regency is famous for its beaches, while the north is known for its nature and agribusiness.
Recreational places in Badung are very complete, such as water parks, bungy jumping, water skiing and parasailing. North Badung, which borders on Beratan Lake (Tabanan Regency), is perfect for meditation and other ecotours. Some rivers in this area are used for rafting.

Kuta Beach
Kuta beach is one of the finest beaches in Bali and perhaps it is the best known of all beaches in Indonesia. Curving like a crescent moon of white sand with large waves, Kuta Beach is an ideal place for surfing. Tourists from all over the world are attracted to come here and the shore is filled with visitors every day. As twilight approaches, the beauty of the sunset is magnificent.
Kuta is a splendid area of Bali, a heaven on earth for tourists. White sandy beaches with waves that are perfect for surfing compliment the busy street, where bars, restaurants, cafes and discos provide a nightlife that’s impressive. Clothing, cassettes, souvenirs, everything imaginable can be purchased at the hundreds of shops and boutiques that do a brisk business in Kuta. Many travel agencies here can arrange tours and tickets to destinations throughout Indonesia. Kuta is 11km south of Denpasar, and easily accessible by public transportation.

Nusa Dua Beach
Nusa Dua, located in Badung Regency about 30 km from Denpasar, and only 12 km from the airport, Nusa Dua has developed since 1979 into the National Pride of Indonesian Tourism. It has the most complete tourist facilities in Bali, indeed in Indonesia, to welcome and cater to guests. Several Five-Star hotels, high quality accommodations, sports facilities, shopping centers and boutiques complete the picture of a luxury resort area that has earned a stunning reputation. The excellent beaches and coconut groves offer a perfect setting for sports, recreation and relaxation on a grand scale

Uluwatu Temple
Balanced picturesquely on the edge of a cliff at the southern end of Bali Island, it is one of the Six Temples of the World, especially revered by the Balinese. Uluwatu Temple is estimated to have been built around the 11th Century, the time when Empu Kuturan was constructing the shrines in the Pura Besakih complex. The trees and undergrowth surrounding the temple are a sanctuary for the numerous monkeys who are protected by the local residents. It is located in the village of Pecatu in the Kuta District of the Badung Regency.

Suluban Beach
Suluban Beach is located in Pecatu village near the temple of Uluwatu. This beach and the one at Labuhan Sait are 34 km south of Denpasar. The splendid panorama seen from this point as well as the outstanding surfing and sail boarding provide a setting that is unique in all of Bali. Visitors must descend the cliff and pass through a cave in order to reach the seashore. However, once there, the peaceful surroundings are well away from the noise and activity of the rest of Bali, and it is a wonderful place for visitors who wish to relax and refresh their minds.

Pelabuhan Sait Beach
Pantai Labuhan Sait is one of several beaches in the Badung regency, which offers a spectacular panorama and is ideal for recreation. Positioned at the base of a rocky hill, the blend of beach and cliffs full of natural ornament is beyond imagination. The way of life and the ocean side conditions at Labuhan Sait are among the greatest creations of God and tourists are so pleased with their visit that they wish to remain forever. The ambiance is comfortable and peaceful because it is away from crowds and the white sandy beaches provide an atmosphere charming to every visitor. (*)
