There are various ways to express people’s admiration for their idol figures. I Wayan Redika, for instance, an artist from Ababi, Karangasem gives special meaning to figures of his idol through creative arts. He makes a painting of the figures ranging from those of local, national to international figure.

“I want to give the awareness that in this world there are people who have superiority in their own field. In my opinion, the figure has ideals for the nation. It is the important side from the figure, but now it has begun to disappear,” said Redika when met in his studio at Penatih, Denpasar, recently.

Within the past two months, this father of single child already had 25 works immortalizing 40 figures of the world. Some were under progress, while the others remained in sketches. “These paintings are ready to be exhibited,” said Redika who scheduled to hold a solo exhibition in February 2013 at Bentara Budaya Bali.

In the exhibition highlighting the theme Exceptional Person he immortalized the scarcity of paragon at this time. “I paint the portrait of prominent figures that are inseparable from the phenomenon of civilization happening today. People no longer consider them exceptional in terms of persona in ancient times that has given a fundamental change in the civilization today,” he said. According to him, many figures influenced the world. An example through invention could inspire the existing generation either in the field of culture, the art up to politics. (image/bud)
