Dalem Alit Temple at Sayan

A Sanctum to Invoke Business Safety, Promotion to Healing

Dalem Alit Temple at SayanIn Bali, the name of Dalem Temple is believed to be haunted because in this temple people usually invoke pangiwa (black magic). It is different from the Dalem Alit Temple located at Sayan hamlet, Werdi Bhuwana village, Mengwi, Badung. The temple located at the southern tip of the hamlet is known as a compassionate temple because all the requests of people are always granted.

Though this temple has mini-size, the division of temple into the innermost, middle and outermost courtyard is still apparent. Two large banyan trees growing beside the temple make the temple increasingly exude the striking aura. A stone placed on a very ancient shrine is believed to be the Goddess of Mercy. It is in this shrine people beg safety.

According to Jro Mangku I Made Niksana, 71, although the residents begging a grace were not from Sayan hamlet, the Goddess of Mercy abiding in the temple would definitely answer provided that the prayers were accompanied with good intentions coupled with an effort. “Many people put offerings after being successful in their business or recovering from illness,” he said.

People who begged for safety and smoothness of business were from various areas on the island. Even, some of them were from outside the region such as Java. Types of petition also varied ranging from the success in business, trading smoothly, graduate from school, promotion in the office, fertility of couple and recovery from illness. Interestingly, people could do the request from their homes, not directly in front of the shrine.

There were people doing the request without having to be accompanied by temple priest. They informed their request from outside the temple. After being successful, they were accompanied by local temple priest. There were also students who invoked from Java and then came to Sayan hamlet to pay their vow. “We know about the matter after they returned to offer the vow by pejati oblation,” explained Jro Mangku.

On that account, added Jro Mangku, the payment of vow in the form of umbrella was in huge numbers. Even, hundreds of those umbrellas were damaged in place. “Other than requesting, many people come here to measure their spiritual power with the deity in this temple. The news broke after they got sick and even died as a result of losing against the local deity,” he said.

In addition to being well-known as a loving, the Dalem Alit Temple at Sayan hamlet was also believed to have an army being ready to defend all residents of Sayan hamlet. If there were people who wanted to do mischief or evil intention, the soldiers would definitely go out for confronting. How many vandals came, the coming out soldiers would be at the same amount.

This unique news had existed since ancient times to the present. Recently, the Sayan region was visited by the youth who wanted to screw up. However, they failed because their desire was first kicked and blocked by the unseen soldiers. “The story of the soldiers who defended the village area is said to have existed since ancient times. Even, in the colonial era, these soldiers come out and helped people in expelling the invaders,” said Jro Mangku. (BTN/agung/015)
