After working hard for 30 days, the sculptor team leader, I Nyoman Sudarwa, managed to accomplish the entire work consisting of Goddess Saraswati statue, pedestal and inscription to the supporting garden in Washington DC, the USA. The weather of Washington DC, according to Nyoman Sudarwa, gradually improved. It was no longer cold and the sun began to shine so as to accelerate the drying process and speed up the process of painting the sculpture.
I Nyoman Sudarwa which is a natural artist did not believe if he had been almost a month living in the heart of President Obama’s country. Similarly, he could hardly believe if he was able to complete the Goddess Saraswati statue right on schedule on May 25, 2013 as expected by the Badung Regent AA Gde Agung and Indonesian Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Dino Patti Djalal.
As scheduled, the inauguration of the Goddess Saraswati statue would be implemented by President SBY in Washington D.C. Sudarwa who is also a sculpture teacher at the SMKN 1 Sukawati vocational school, really felt thrilled and proud because the statue of his work would be inaugurated by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Besides, Nyoman Sudarwa was also happy and excited to work when seeing the enthusiasm of tourists and residents of the Washington D.C. that watched him working from morning to night almost every day.
The statue located downtown Washington D.C. is quite unique, considering there have been a lot of statues in Washington D.C., belonging to naturalist to classical sculpture, where almost all are made of bronze. Goddess Saraswati statue standing near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi is considered to be unique and special by people because it is made of concrete structure. More uniquely, the statue having Balinese character is the only one in the city of Washington D.C. Then, the Goddess Saraswati statue also becomes a new icon of Washington. (BTN/ist)
