The procession of mass cremation or ngaben ceremony in Monkey Forest Ubud attracted the attention of the tourists. They are watching the event enthusiastically which was held on Saturday, September 21, 2013. “The tourists are curious with the event so it is very hard to manage them,” said the Manager of Monkey Forest Putu Suartika.
Thousands of people consist of the locals and tourists packed the tourism spot from morning until night. Many of the tourists coming are only to see the ngaben ceremony. They came from various countries such as Taiwan, USA and some countries in Europe. Suartika explained that the high number of visitors make it very difficult to find parking space at that moment. “This kind of event gave extra income for the seller in the area especially those who sell food and drink,” he added.
In the ceremony, there were 84 bodies cremated where most of them were the body buried in the area. The body was placed in large puppets of animas such as cow, lion, elephant and fish. The animal was made according to clan of each body. (BTN/015)
