Many happy returns of the day to Gianyar town for its 243rd anniversary! As one of the regions having a strong potential for the arts in Bali, this region definitely has its own place in the heart of the art, culture and tourism lovers.
For instance, Ubud has become one of the icons. Its community has been tourism literate since around the 1920s. Ubud is very global. So, it is not mistaken if outside community does not really know if Ubud is one of the subdistricts in Gianyar.
Aside from Ubud, there are many tourist destinations or other cultural centers such as Tampaksiring, Mas, Ubud, Celuk, Batubulan and others. Well, from the row of these names, the most familiar ones to travelers are mostly located in the west region of Gianyar. Only a few is located in the eastern region of Gianyar. However, it does not necessarily mean if the East Gianyar does not have any potential. For example, the area of Lebih Beach has emerged as a favorite destination of culinary adventure, Keramas Beach as surfing playground and even the Gianyar town itself.
East-West Gianyar dichotomy has been prominent since long time ago. This happens because the inequality of people’s welfare in both regions. West Gianyar is considered to have developed due to its tourism, while Eastern Gianyar remains underdeveloped. Although it should not follow the field of tourism, the eastern region has other advantages such as in the field of farming, crafts, archaeological tourism and other creative industries.
Through this anniversary moment, the government is reminded again in order to quickly bridge such an inequality. Do not let the welfare gap be too wide without any appropriate and directed breakthrough.
