Bali must have Tourism Promotion Board
As a world’s tourist destination, it is time for Bali to have an integrated promotion agency to shore up the tourism growth on the island. Moreover, the Law No.10/2009 on Tourism mandates the local government through the Bali Government Tourism Office to facilitate the establishment of two bodies namely the Tourism Industry Association of Indonesia (GIPI) and Regional Tourism Promotion Board (BPPD).
“Central GIPI and GIPI Bali have been established. After establishing the Indonesian Tourist Promotion Board (BPPI) in the central level, it should be followed by establishing the board in regional level (BPPD) so that the tourism promotion in Bali can be optimized,” said the Secretary of the Indonesia Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of Badung, Gusti Kade Sutawa, when met at Hotel Puri Saron.According to him, Bali had not been able to perform an integrated campaign. So far, the promotion made by government and employers was still running independently.
“Pursuant to the Law of Tourism, the BPPD is composed by 9 elements, such as the element of the industry, representatives of the academician, aviation, government and other elements, so that the tourism promotion can run integrally,” he said.Sutawa hoped the formation of the BPPD would not be overlapping with the GIPI because so far the tourism promotion of Bali had been undertaken by tourism players coalesced into the GIPI.
“The tasks of GIPI should make tourism products, while BPPD undertakes promotion so that both bodies established can go hand in hand and do not overlap,” he said.A member of the BPPI, Nyoman Kandia, said the establishment of the BPPD should be supported by reliable tourism actors, particularly in the areas of promotion and marketing. BPPD should be able to bring in domestic and the foreign tourists to Bali. “BPPD Bali must also conduct a market research, so that the promotion of Bali tourism can be right on target. Besides, the BPPD should be able to give a good image of Bali,” he said.In terms of funding, the BPPD Bali, said Kandia, should not only depend on the government funding in the future. It should be able to seek funding outside the budget of the BPPD. Preparation of campaign funds was very important for the performance sustainability of the BPPD Bali in the future. (BTN/kmb)
