Gede Parmita: Smoke-Free Environment
For smokers, it will become a tough day without cigarettes, especially when traveling. Apparently while enjoying beautiful scenery accompanied with a glass of coffee and refreshment will turn tasteless without the presence of cigarette fumes. As a matter of fact, it is a dilemma and challenge for Bali if it really wants to create some public space, especially that of tourism, a convenient space without cigarettes.
“It’s a challenge but we’ll get there eventually anyway,” said Gede Parmita, Corporate Director of Sales & Marketing of Paradiso Hotel Bali to Bali Travel News (BTN) recently. As a matter of fact, such a movement had long become a trend overseas, especially in Europe. When the tagline of green and healthy tourism was echoed around the world, many people should follow the movement. Parmita also claimed that in some properties where he worked the ashtrays began to be taken away from public places where tourists were usually waiting, having meals together and so on.
In Bali, especially in the tourism resorts said the man from Dalung who liked playing gender traditional music the movement had been widely implemented, while in some others had not. Parmita also admitted the smoke-free environment in public space of this tourist destination was quite a dilemma. On the one hand, people supported the smoke-free environment for public space while on the other hand a fear emerged if it was applied it would surely reduce the income or revenue. “It’s okay to be applied in hotel room, but how about in the bar as well as in the amusement centers? It should also be considered to provide a special room or smoking area,” he said.
After all, added this humorous and non-smoking man, Bali as a tourist destination should follow the tourism trend overwhelming the world today, especially the trend leading to ecotourism and healthy tourism. (BTN/pal)
