Existence of tourist facilities in Bali, especially hotel, tends to increase day after day. The concept also varies ranging from the modern, traditional to combination of both styles. However, as the hotels established in Bali, it will be better to always look different and accentuate the distinctiveness. “Hotel in Bali must have an attribute so its taksu (divine vibration) and aura will not fade,” said the Resort Manager of Wapa in Ume, I Gusti Ngurah Swijana.
As the manager of the hotel located in the heart of Ubud tourism, Swijana conveyed that unique hotel in Bali was the hotel implementing a traditional concept. “Basically, the guests coming to Ubud are from the countries with the high level of busyness and stress. Therefore, we create a resort applying the traditional concept, offering peace and beauty as well as located away from hustles and bustles,” he said.
Guests who came to Bali, he added, were those who wanted to enjoy Bali. So, they should be presented with peace, for instance, the hotel with green landscaping garden, quiet atmosphere as well as clean and friendly environment. “Most hotels and resorts in Ubud area sell the view, especially the paddy field view. Meanwhile, in the Wapa di Ume we highlight the view of paddy fields and organic garden,” he explained.
“To create a natural green atmosphere around the hotel, we build an organic garden. Aside from giving a beautiful impression, it is also intended to provide knowledge for guests who enjoy a vacation in Bali. The organic vegetable garden is filled with plants and herbs that are free of chemicals, where the results will be used in the restaurant of the hotel. Of course, it is rarely found at hotels in their country,” he said.
In addition, affirmed Swijana, to emphasize the impression of traditional and peaceful charms, the rooms were also set up without television. By that way, guests would really enjoy their holiday and they could sleep well at night without being bothered by news and entertainment. It was the strategy to give the impression and experience for guests staying in Ubud.
Swijana delivered that the atmosphere was not only influenced by the internal environment of hotel but also the external environment. “The hotel standing at the heart of village will often deal with local people. On that account, hospitality and courtesy of villagers should be maintained. Moreover, the rural areas remain to have a very strong and good culture of mutual assistance and social relationship as well as religious tradition,” he said.
According to him, the existing hotels in Bali should not forget the traditional concept in the form of a physical building and atmosphere. It was okay for hotel to adopt modern concept, but it should not forget the atmosphere of Bali. Moreover, all hotels should have a characteristic because it could make the hotel look different. In addition, the hotel should also implement the Tri Hita Karana (balance) concept to maintain the harmonious relationship to God, fellow humans and the environment.
“If the concept we sell reflects the image of Bali, guests will certainly come again in the next arrival and choose hotel as their second home. However, if we cannot maintain the distinctiveness and the traditional concept, our tourism will gradually be abandoned by travelers because they do not get a unique experience that cannot be felt in their home country,” he said.
